I played it. It was probably my favorite Gamecube game. Smash Bros had more replayability, but you "had" to play through ED 3 times to get the "Final" ending.

Which I did, I think I played it straight through 4 times in a row infact. It ruled, was very lovecraftian.

Sanity effects were kinda pointless, as unless you really sucked at the game you never had to deal with them. They were neat when you "Tried" to get them, but since I was expecting to get them anyway I pretty much knew when they were coming.



Actually thinking about it... I think it was my favorite game on any system last generation. Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 comes close however.



Thats why when I know I want to buy a game like ED, I'll make an effort not to learn anything about it before playing. Just like I did with Bioshock.

 Well i didn't know what Sanity Effects would happen, just that i'd beaten the game a couple times already not really expierencing many, and was curious to what they were.  

My favorite, but the least likely to freak anyone out was the Hamlet one.

Hamlet? That sound vaguely familiar. What exactly happened?

Does anybody know if  they have the insanity effects on YOUTube?

Yeah, I see what you mean. They should have made it easier to stay insane. Once you learn how to work the magic system and how to make the spells you need, it becomes even harder to stay insane.

Also, it would be cool if the effects would have impacted game play a bit; like having you walk -off a cliff or something.

Oh- but I forgot that when you where insane it started leeching away your health too.

 

At the same time, I was taken by surprise most times because a lot of the time you are searching the mansion for something and then you character just ups and shoots herself in the head- so for a second your like "WHAT!?" and then you get the Game Over Screen.    You start to realize but for a second- for a second.

I had been curious about this game ever since it was announced on the N64. Once Nintendo took SK over I became even more curious. If Nintendo buys a company I tend to sit up a listen. Usually there is a reason for the purchase usually something awesome springs forth.
So I read everything I got my hands on- kind of like I did with Raven Blade (R.I.P.). But the Prime Series was good enough.
Say do you think the engine that they ran MP on was the Engine that was originally for RAVEN BLADE? Cause do you remember when STAR FOX Adventures was Dino World (I think) And Nintendo switched out the original characters with Fox? I wonder.
Hopefully,  they are making Raven Blade even now. But I hope they get someone at Retro who can do human models better.
Anyway, I digress.
Like TV when they say watch our show for the Big Surprise and the they proceed to show you what the surprise is or the movie critics that give away too much about the movie or the people that track down trailer after trailer- MOST OF THE TIME IT IS BEST TO BE OBLIVIOUS AND WAIT. That way you are more surprised.

ED took me by complete surprise. I remember my friends and my amazement when Paul Luther was killed by the guardian like that. Our collective jaws dropped.

And then we came back with the reporter and killed it...

I spent a few hours mucking around with that tomb in the underground city, just trying to figure out if it did anything.

Oh, and everyone got the rune of Mantorok, right?

 It was when you played the royal page.  His head popped off, then it shifted to the front of the screen and spoke a few lines from hamlet.  If I remember right.

They should of made low sanity not effect health and then make it harder to cure.
