also, are they going to ban Nuns from wearing their dress? no, of course not, because nuns are normally white christians.

You can see the face of nuns don't ya?  And wow their are no african nuns in your country?

1)ive met less friendly nuns than friendly muslim women.

why you need to see the face? dont you use an IM client? we gonna ban them too?

1)  Did I say muslim women are less friendly than nuns?

why need to see the face...maybe for proper identification of the person? This issue all stared with a group of Burqa women who did not wanted to let the police show their face...'I wear a burqa because no men should see me and then you ask to show myself what is the point of my burqa then'?  Can women wear an burqa on UK airports?  Can they go to an bank? can they do their exams on school? Can they find work with one? Without showing their face?  If not they are screwed...

why not? what do you not like about them hiding there faces?

If they show their face when police asks to do..or at situations when proper identification is needed I don't have a problem with it all...If they refuse then they should not be surprised that a country/city wants to ban it...but yeah if they accept it.....it will be hard to say I am for a ban or not...What is more important that the women have the right to wear it...or ban it so no husband can demand to wear it...Allowing it can make other husbands demand it aswell...

Sadly it does not help aswell that some use a burqa aswell to use criminal activities I though their was an accident in London aswell last year..

thats fine, if police ask them, they should, if they refuse, then they should find something to do then, but banning them for all because of that is stupid, its like banning all cats because one cat scratched a policeman.

Do what then?

if they have sufficient suspicion arrest them

edit: answer my other point.

Witch point exactly...The cat that scratched a policeman?

I don't think I've ever encountered a nun in public. I've encountered many Muslim ladies wearing burqas.

lucky you. Nuns are generally preachy and annoying.

so have I, never once did those women scare or intimidate me, all of them seemed nice enough people, didnt try to convert me either, unlike nuns.

Did you feel your safety was at risk?

No, not at all. I'll admit, I sighed inwardly only because I believe that forcing somebody to wear a burqa/hijab (would anyone do it out of choice?) was wrong. This isn't an issue of safety. It's an issue of liberty and, much more than that, secularity.

What's your point? Did these women threaten your life?It sound like your just simply annoyed by women wearing burqas ...

what a hate crime.

Some people don't seem to be getting this:

France is a secular country. Completely secular. Religious Education cannot be taught in school or university. Pupils may not wear religious symbols of any kind, from any religion, to school. No Burqas, no crosses, no Kirpans, no Kippahs.

This is not intended to persecute Muslims. This is intended to preserve the non-religious atmosphere of France, and to prevent against discrimination more than anything else.

as I understand it, the Burka has nothing to do with their religion, its a cultural thing.

and teaching RE is fine, so long as its not biased.

It has everything to do with the Islamic religion. It is a symbol of Islam.

RE will always be biased, that's the thing. You're not going to have an atheist teaching RE, so the teacher will be of a certain religion (in Britain/France, most probably Christianity). Also, separation of church and state, and all that. Religion has no place in an institution of learning based on scientific proof.

Not annoyed, no. A little sad, but not annoyed. I'm just pointing out that you're far more likely to see a woman wearing a burqa than a nun.

okay then, I have no issue banning religion from schools.

I just think that the Burka is more complex an issue than people think, some women do chose to wear it, they shouldnt be punished for that imo, if they are being forced, then you address the why not the fact that they are wearing them.

Heck, banning RE and faith schools may well help address the why in part anyway, its better to do the smart thing over the longer time, than the dumb thing in the short term.

No. Not because i "don't like them". I didn't say that at all. I gave perfect reasons.

And as for the "and finding rare cases where poeple use them to commit a crime is stupid, I can easily do the same for hoodies and such." Go ahead. I don't care. I was only using it to show that it isn't just Muslim women who wear them. For all you know, Bin Laden could have walked past you in the street just Yesterday... The same goes for everyone else in the thread.

Oh, and you're the one being pathetic. You're trying to find the littlest little thing so you can play the racist card again. Get a grip.

The Burka (or however you spell the damn thing) is made to cover your entire face, baring the eyes, while you walk around in the street or work, doing day to day things. It hides your identity. End of. Do you support the supposed "ID Card" thing that was (or is?) going to happen here? Would you agree that Millions of those ID cards will have the exact same "face" on them?

The things you pointed out as should be banned, all have uses beneficial to the person wearing them, and even people around them in some cases (I'm looking at you, Bike Helmet and Internet). Paper bag is just "pathetic". The Burka... Doesn't. If anything it creates a problem for the vast majority of people around them. Especially nowadays with the Taliban and bomb scares...

And i fully agree with the quote posted in this thread. When in Rome...

Get over it. The Burka being kept as legal doesn't even benefit you...

yes.

Let me change it a little;...What happens with a dog that attacks a policeman and bites?

Living animals = Burka?
