At least that's a TRUE number. We'll never get a true number on christians. A "christian" that hasn't been to church in years and does what the fuck they like, isn't christian IMO.

This is why they're worried

5% of the UK go to church every Sunday, compared to the 45% of Atheists in the UK. Proper Christians really are a minority in the UK.

what?!? 45% of the Uk is atheist?  that is waay larger than i would have guessed.

According to a survey I heard on Bill O'Reilly:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5w8OhiLU7cU

From anecdotal evidence people of my age group, 16-20, the percentage of Atheists

is certainly higher than that (I would guess at 66-75%)..

I've a question, would those who are religious disqualify the possibility of marriage with a person who isn't religous and vice versa? Some religious folks I know, seem to use Religion as a discriminatory process for choosing a mate. Just curious.

I think it depends a lot of how much of a "strong" believer/practioneer the person is.

Here in Brazil people, in general, are very loose about their religion, and don't really like following strict rules. As a result we have many, many "weak" christians, most of them being catholic. It's so weak that a huge number of these people are catholic but also believe in spiritism or candomblé and things like that, even if they go directly against what the bibble or their church says. Kind of like robbers, murderes or dealers using crosses on their chests. So most people here don't give a crap about their partner's religion.

But some do. Some people (specially from baptist and also some evangelical denominations) take these things a lot more seriously and would surelly not even be in an intimate relationship with someone from a different religion, even if they're both crhistians. But these people, being a small minority, are seen as rather awkward when it comes to this habit.

So I think it depends a lot on the group you're looking at, but people who actually take their religion seriously would mostly not marry someone from another group.

I'm Christian but I don't really care for religion. Church is boring. So what does that make me?

You are a weak Christian by definition. You believe in Christian beliefs and values, but you're not actively persuing God.

Is that true, or is there more information I need?

I would say he is an Atheist. I was Christened but through no choice of my own. Just because a scrap of paper says I am doesn't over ride my personal/ individual beliefs. Also Atheists can have whatever morals attitudes they want. Just because it overlaps with Christian teaching means very little.

To be a Christian you have to belive in God, the bbible and the teaching of Jesus Christ.

Wait... when you're christened they actually give you papers showing that you've been christened? Being a christian is a legal status?

Erm. There must be something... As I am a "Christian" is allows me to go to the school I am at.

It's illegal in the UK to have an educational institution which only allows students from a certain religion.

False. My school being a Church Of England school has a right to reserve 51% of the places for Christians.

51%. Thus, up to half of the school can be non-Christian.

Yeah....just reading over what I put, it would have been better for me to say: Being a Christian it virtually guarentees me a place.

Wrong again. It's non-Christians that are virtually guaranteed a place.

Lets say your school holds 100 people. 75 Christians want to go there but 49 Muslims and Jews want to go there too.

The school has to let all the Muslims and Jews go there and only 51/75 Christians get the chance.

......and no you don't get any official documentation for baptism/christenings. Maybe a few nice photos and a card from the priest.

If I got this right, it's not that only 51% of the students can be christian, but rather that 51% of the places are reserved for christians. So if there's some kind of selection for the places, everyone applys for that 495 that's not reserved but the christians can also run for those other 51%. At least that's how it works here on universities we're we have a reserve of places for poor and/or indian/black people.
