Forums - General - Atheists on the rise in America

The older I get and the more I learn about nature how intricate even the what we consider simple life forms are the more believe in a designer. Chance does not cut it any more for me

Even nature shows comment on evolutions designs which is a comical thought

I'm Christian but I don't really care for religion. Church is boring. So what does that make me?

You are a weak Christian by definition. You believe in Christian beliefs and values, but you're not actively persuing God.

Is that true, or is there more information I need?

I would say he is an Atheist. I was Christened but through no choice of my own. Just because a scrap of paper says I am doesn't over ride my personal/ individual beliefs. Also Atheists can have whatever morals attitudes they want. Just because it overlaps with Christian teaching means very little.

To be a Christian you have to belive in God, the bbible and the teaching of Jesus Christ.

Wait... when you're christened they actually give you papers showing that you've been christened? Being a christian is a legal status?

"I don't understand how someone could like Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, but not like Twilight!!!"

"Last book I read was Brokeback Mountain, I just don't have the patience for them unless it's softcore porn."

(The Voice of a Generation and Seece)

"If you cant stand the sound of your own voice than dont become a singer !!!!!"

                                                                               (pizzahut451)

also just because you don't believe in God doesn't mean you are not prone to prejudices like slot of religous groups are.

We are all human

Actually I don't have some scrap paper thing, I was just baptized :P

IDK, I think I might be "weak Christian" like RCT said. I don't reject God and there is a small part of me that thinks God could exist. But mostly...I just don't care.

I think that just makes you a normal Teenager brought up in a Christian household

I believe in a god/gods/higher power. But I can't and will not put my faith into a book written by man.

same here I believe in the Christian God, churches says the bible is the word of God, that may be but it was written by man, translated countless times and controlled by different churches and powerful people. I follow it as a morale guideline and try to learn from the story's in it but I think for myself and I would never force anyone else to see things my way. I also have seen strong evidence for the big bang, I currently have very little doubt about it not being right but I would be blind if I said I was certain especially considering the scientist who have done great research into, say they don't know everything about it. All I want is for people not to knowingly hurt others, and to try and do what they see as right. I question what I know and believe every now and then and I am always open to new ideas. so what am I?

The morale of the stories in the Bible seem just like common sense to me. Honestly, I don't even have to know the stories to already understand the morales. So it's really annoying when churches repeat the morales over and over again and also the same stories we already know like we didn't already get this stuff the first or second time. Pff, like I haven't heard this stuff before...it's so ridiculously pointless.

It's easier to just stay up and then fall asleep at church. Because sitting there for hours bored out of my mind doesn't help.

@Torillian

Well maybe that too :P Though I don't really think my views will change. I don't think I cared a whole lot when I was younger either when you're more open to this stuff.

agreed most of them are just common sense that is why I said guideline and not code. as for church I have only ever went for weddings or christenings. I consider myself a historian, and I like to look at the story's and learn from mistakes or when things go right.

correct me if I am wrong
stop me if I am bias
I love a good civilised debate (but only if we can learn something).

At least that's a TRUE number. We'll never get a true number on christians. A "christian" that hasn't been to church in years and does what the fuck they like, isn't christian IMO.

This is why they're worried

Christianity teaches pure Altruism as a means of living ones life. Give yourself to God, live in his image, sacrifice yourself for your beliefs, and that is a huge sticking point. Altruism in itself is a mis-leading statement, with a little bit of thought, one could tie any selfless act to a selfish motivation. That is a mis-leading representation of human behavior and human motivation.

True selfishness is what I believe in, I sacrifice myself not for anyone and expect no one to sacrifice for me. I only do the things I want to do and care about the people whom are within my interests. It is not my job to love everyone equally, but it is my choice to love those closest to me. If one lives according to their motivations, that is self interested behavior, but there is a type of self interest that I think is a noble and true representation of the human condition.

5% of the UK go to church every Sunday, compared to the 45% of Atheists in the UK. Proper Christians really are a minority in the UK.

Probably that works for atheists too. How many people just don't care and if you ask them they say they're atheist just because they're too lazy to try finding if they believe in someOne?

I agree with you: the true christians are a small minority. I suppose Religion is something the modern man just don't care about so it's normal for atheist to increase in percentage.

Not surprised tbh!
