Forums - Sales - What happened to Tiger Woods on Wii?

Im shocked at how badly the Tiger woods franchise has started to sell on the Wii. Back in '08 '9 it was quite a solid seller but since 10 it has dropped off bu at least it still sold more than the HD versions.

Tiger 11 on the other hand has had a disastrous start on Wii and looks very unlikely to pick up enough to even put it on par with the HD versions.

Nobody likes Tiger Woods anymore.

What is in Tiger Woods 11 that isn't in 10? I'm glad Wii owners aren't dumb enough to buy the same game every year.

well 2 things really

1. look at past, tiger woods on wii always has been more about legs than opening, same as most wii games.

2. the whole tiger woods contraversy in real life thing could have detracted many sales for all systems

Wii customers aren't willing to pay for the same game four times? I'll bet playing Tiger Woods 08 and 09 is still very popular, and people are happy with it so why upgrade?

The reason to buy yearly editions of "traditional" sports games is to get the new teams, rosters and stats (e.g. Madden). But casual players aren't interested in the professional sport of golf but instead in the enjoyment it provides as a family game. So they don't need updated versions for that.

as much as i can see why people always scoff at MARIO Sports games throughout the ages for milking mario, this is the main reason I love them.

1 mario tennis, soccer, baseball, golf or whatever Especially GOLF.  Love mario golf.  But anyway, 1 mario golf gets me through the entire generation for golf games.  I don't need to buy any new golf every year, mario golf lasts until next generation when new golf game comes out.

Sales for this game have been sagging on the Wii with each new iteration. The only exception was that the second version (08) outsold the first (07).

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

When Mario Golf, Mario Tennis (and now Mario Party) were replaced by generic Wii Sports versions featuring Miis I was disappointed. Camelot did a great job on Golf and Tennis, with Mario Tennis (GBC) being my favourite of them.

Motoi Sakuraba's music was great, the controls were simple yet deep, and the object was to have fun rather than seriously simulate the sport.

The Wii's controls, and use of Miis, made the titles more appealing to newcomers so increased sales, but I found the motion control much harder to use than A/B/control stick.

Customers finally got fed up and started showing the middle finger to 3rd parties. About time.
