Forums - Sony - PSN online gaming, why do so few use voice?

Its alot better sometimes without a mic. You hear a-lot of shit-talkers and little kids on it, so its best to just stay away from all that drama. Unfortunately, there is no party chat, so I can't talk to my cousin without other people listening onto the convo....

Agreed...

I don't have a mic, and the first thing I do when I join a game is to mute everyone, because it is really annoying to listen to random kids babbling, no need to mention ugly music some people play.

It really depend's on the game, I was watching a friend play M.A.G. and there were heap's of people with mic's, but when I played Killzone 2 online only about 3 or 4 people might have mics in a match. The PS3's biggest problem is that the console should have come with mics bundled in from launch.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

It's because PS3s don't get bundled with them, so people just don't care or realize that mics for it exist.

Yeah, MS has really concentrated on the online aspect of its product which pays for them b/c they are by far the biggest in America as opposed to the other two that prefer to diversify geographically more.  Being in America means that most people will use XBL and they'll always be selling stuff on it, and gamers will always speak in english.  This is the smartest part of MS's strategy imho.

Well, for one thing it really depends on the game.   Shooters generally have far more people using mics then other gametypes.  Combined with the fact that Sony didn't bundle a mic with the PS3 and there you go.

However,  Xbox Live has the same issues sometimes.  I would also take notice of the time of day or even what day it is.

People aren't normally very chatty at 1:00 a.m.  except on Saturday nights, when you'll get a few drunks on.  Another thing that influences mic use is the sales of the game.  Expect to find more people with mics on a game that has sold 5 million than one that's lucky to sell only 1 million.

That's about all I can think of.  It's not a bad trade off, as many use there mics for very "muteable" talk. So the less I hear of idiocy, the better enjoyment of my game.

Check us out at the Vindication Gamer Network on Youtube.

when I play Uncharted 2 online I always run into people with mics, other than that yeah, not alot of people use mics.

I only use my mic with friends in an online game, otherwise I don't bother.

I play PC and PS3. The best of both worlds.

Mostly pointless in my opinion. I usually don't use a mic when playing online games unless I'm playing with friends. There have been some exceptions though such as playing Killzone 2 with people from VGchartz. There was also one amazing weekend I had in MAG when I joined up in a party with a group of players and we were all calling out enemies and supporting each other and scoring tons of XP, but times like that usually don't happen very often.

I agree. I don't want to deal with 12yr olds online. lol
