Forums - Sony - PSN online gaming, why do so few use voice?

I have never really been into online multiplayer much, the height of which was probably back in the original X-Box days when I owned all 3 consoles and would play Midtown Madness 3 and Wolfenstein none stop.

These days I own just a PS3 and to be drawn into playing games online I have to quite heavily into the game. The only ones I have put any note worthy online playtime on currently being Tekken 6 followed by now Transformers: War for Cybertron.

But I noticed hardly anyone uses voice chat at all. Playing Tekken about 1 in 50 people I played against had voice enabled, and with WFC about 1 person in every second match up has it.

So why do so few people use voice chat on PSN online play? do others find the same thing? and is this only a trend limited too PSN or does the same happen on XB360? I know back when I played the original XB virtually all the players had voice enabled.

But the lack of people using voice for PSN online games makes it almost impossible for playing games which rely heavily on team work. Maybe its just the games I play? ok, I wasnt too surprised to find few who play Tekken online had voice enabled, as there is not much to talk about unless you simply want to talk trash to your opponent. But having now clocked up alot of time on Transformers online, the same trend is just as apparent.

The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them.

Because i don't care, out of all the games i own the only one where i considered buying a mic for is Borderlands.

Not just PSN. It's pretty common on Xbox Live, too, especially after they added parties.

huh, surpised by that.  I was going to say voice chat on psn is down a lot due to a mic not being included with the console unlike the 360.  but if it is common on xbl as well maybe people just don't like to use voice.

Two reasons:

1. People don't want to buy a mic

2. Its pointless

The only game on consoles that a coordinated effort is really needed is MAG, and probably SOCOM 4 later this year. So if you don't play those theres no reason to own a mic.

Its alot better sometimes without a mic. You hear a-lot of shit-talkers and little kids on it, so its best to just stay away from all that drama. Unfortunately, there is no party chat, so I can't talk to my cousin without other people listening onto the convo....

I personally don't use voice cuz personally I can live without brats trying to be Chuck Norris over da mics in a game..just stfu and play is the motto ..

two reasons.

1.) they dont want to talk to losers

2.) they play online for free and dont want to invest the money

far as im concerned, multiplayer should only be split screen, or MMO

one exception is LBP which is a very unique case

I don't have one. The games I play online really don't need me to have a mic to enjoy them.

I know Socom has alot of people with mics. Sure the game came with a mic but there was an option to buy the game without one.
