Based on the fact alone that this guy is posting this on a VG site just goes to show you what his motive is. Rep=evil Dem= savior of mankind, of course neither party should be given a free pass, and each candidate should be judged on their own merits, not party alliance, becuase neither party is great in my book, that is just my thought though...

Assuming that is pointing at me.

I live in Canada and is a Canadian. USA affairs isn't what I would care or should care about. I just thought the article was interesting and link it here.

The title itself has a "?" and didn't write anything in the content other than the text from source.

This is posted in "Off Topic" in case you missed it.

Tin-foil hats for everyone!!

Since Californians would have to vote it in a referendum how is it undemocratic?

It isn't "undemocratic", but it does unbalance the electoral college system if you do this in one state and not the other 49.  Maine already does this, but that only affects the outcome by 1 electoral vote at most.  Switching California would give the Republicans about 20 electoral votes in the next election.

Ever hear of gerrymandering?  This is kind of similar -- adjusting the rules in one location to the benefit of one party.

As a Californian, we've hearing about this shit for a while, and it pisses off even my Republican friends. This IS nothing short of trying to rig the election. You don't see either party proposing to split Texas based on districts. It fucking pisses me off. First, our state has no say in anything except when those greedy douche politicians need massive amounts of money. Fucking Kansas probably has more say than we do on the national political scene, and we'd be in the top 10 richest nations if we were our own country. And now we're used to butcher up the electoral college system. Fuck this shit. I can say with a fair amount of certainty though that this will not pass our vote. Initiatives like this tend to get a "no" from Californians, and you can bet that Democrats will not pull any stops fighting it (and for once, rightfully so). If this goes through, kiss goodbye to Democrats for at least a few decades. The imbalance caused by those 20 electoral votes will pretty much gurantee a Republican win for the next 3 elections even if they are behind by millions in popular votes.

Why don't you get a democratic system that is based on popular vote for gods sake?

Your entire constitution is screwed up in the USA, think you guys should write a new one =P

I think this article is WAY premature, because if it really was going to happen (which I doubt) the liberal media would be all over it. (yes I am biased cause i said "liberal" media)

Early in our history, we placed alot of power in individual states, at least in ideals. Our system was initially set up so that a huge state couldn't outright dominate smaller states politically. Also, they thought the system would work well too as we grew larger. And you know what, it has. Iowa and New Hampshire end up having a disproportionately large effect on Presidential elections, whereas California is a nothing but a bread basket for cash hungry politicians.

them election wasnt rigged, the voting system jsut sucks.

We vote for people to vote for us but the people we elect have a choice to vote for whoever they want.

Wow biased much?

"In the long, hot autumn of 2000, the world was shocked by the contempt for democracy shown by the Republican Party. They knew their man had lost the popular vote to Al Gore by half a million votes. They knew the majority of voters in Florida itself had pulled a lever for Gore. But they fought -- amid the confetti of hanging chads -- to stop the state's votes being counted, and to ensure that the Supreme Court imposed George W. Bush on the nation."

This right here is where I totally blew off this man's opinion. Our political system is based off of the electoral votes, not popular. People need to realize this. This is how it has always been and most likely always will be. He makes it seem like the Republicans stole the election when all they did was try not to waste everyone's time in Florida by recounting everyone's votes. It was stupid to hold a recount.

HUH? Waisting everyones time? Are you kidding me?  This is generally considered the most important position in the world right now.  You think it would be a waste of time to take an extra week to get it right?  Especially since the winner wouldn't take office for another 2 months.  Talk about biased.  The ONLY reason the republicans didn't want a recount was because there was a strong possiblity they might lose.

As for the current situation, if California votes to have its electoral votes split, then so be it.  A state has every right to decide how to divide its electoral votes.  It may favor the republicans, but it is not a constitutional issue.
