Early in our history, we placed alot of power in individual states, at least in ideals. Our system was initially set up so that a huge state couldn't outright dominate smaller states politically. Also, they thought the system would work well too as we grew larger. And you know what, it has. Iowa and New Hampshire end up having a disproportionately large effect on Presidential elections, whereas California is a nothing but a bread basket for cash hungry politicians.
