I read and gave you an answer, not having PC sales numbers doesn't hurt it in anyway. As it's impossible it slowed it down, it could only ever increase it.

You have presented no data to substantiate this. By your own admission yu have to consider all platforms. When you provide PC data you might have a point. Until then you are just making unjustified claims. |
I'm going on the data we have here. That MW2 crossed the 15 million mark before NSBW. (You can't denie this, it's actually a fact.)
MW2: probably fastest game to 15 million -yeah
NSMBWii: probably the fastest single console title to 15 million - yeah
Chosing and lauding abitrary achievements, or conversely placing abitrary caveates, is something that is done in the gaming world and on this site on a daily basis. How is this any different?
Best selling HD console, fastest selling third placed console, highest selling non-pack in game, best selling version of a game, best selling North America console, best console graphics, fastest selling (handheld) console, good graphics for the Wii etc. Remove all the qualifiers and we are left with PS2, DS, Wii Sports (?) and Crysis, discussion over.
If we didn't, as a group, like to focus on the minutiae, the site as is would not exist.
edit: I can appreciate that some people do not like the title but it's a common tactic throughout the media. A somewhat misleading but not incorrect headline with qualifiers in the body of the article.

The difference is that when you're making those minute claims you don't make a thread titled "Valkyria Chronicles becomes the best selling game of the generation" and then say in the thread "Valkyria Chronicles is the best selling HD jRPG of the generation" because I'd lock the thread for being misleading, just as this news title is misleading.

Not only that, but MW2 sold 15 million without any abituary's (sp?) attached to it.
Modern Warfare 2 as A game, reached 15 million faster than any other game going by the data we have. No single platform, no multiplatform, no nothing. GAME. Fastest GAME.
That title belongs to MW2, so why wasn't there a news piece for MW2 reaching 15 mill? Will it's impending win of reaching 20 million the fastest be noted?
I doubt it ...

New Super Mario Bros. Wii Becomes Fastest Game to Top 15m can become New Super Mario Bros. Wii Becomes Fastest Single Platform Game to Top 15m otherwise the title is simply wrong, that's the argument I'm making as well as the idea that 2 consoles means double the amount of time on the shelves is ridiculous. |
Then why bring it up here? No one here can actually change anything. Bring it up on the staff forums, or with TheSource himself. More over, misleading titles is a staple of journalism. I hardly see how its even note worthy.
@Seece
I never claimed otherwise. I said you can't claim its the fastest to 15 million. How long did it take other games, and how long did it actually take MW2? You can answer neither of these questions in the context of your argument. You can claim its the fastest selling console game, but then you have to legitimize NSMBWii's claim as single platform.

At VGChartz we use the data we have as our measure. We did exactly this with the top 50 selling games which has been published at many other sites. We use our data as fact AFAIK.
We have the data to support MW2 reaching 15 million the fastest.
Turns out, you're the one making all the noise and coming up with an excuse for every post.
Hey.. I don't need any excuses, I have the data here to back me up

http://vgchartz.com/game.php?id=28847
Add Week 8 together for PS360. There is your data.

I wanted to discuss it and the thread was already made, I'm not going to bring it up on the staff forums because news isn't my thing and I don't care to get into it, but I thought it was interesting enough to join the argument in a thread. Misleading titles may be a staple of journalism, but that doesn't make it right.

I was never claiming that there were any exceptions placed on MW2. It doesn't mean people won't write articles or create threads about fasting single console game or DS game or PS3 game to hit 15 million.
@Torillian: Perhaps not the particular example you gave but those kind of thread titles are created by people all the time. However, if you think The Source's article should be locked for being misleading, i'd support that:)
| Seece said: I know The Source is a big fan of the Wii and not so much the HD, but MW2 is A game, and it reached 15 million in 8 weeks, much faster than NSMB |
VGChartz lists games according to separate SKUs. It's the fastest single SKU to ever hit 15 million.
That's all there is.
