I wasen't talking about you dude just people in general.
It reminds me a bit of Downfall where Hitler is in his bunker, bombing all around him, ceeiling is falling apart, allies are all over Berlin. And he looks at his map and thinks a German army will appear from nowhere and save his bacon. While his generals give him the look of "er we have no army"!
It is simmilar as some people actually think there is this group out there somewhere! It just defies logic.
Because the main part of this belief is that they are Gran Turismo die hard fans. Fair enough. But to be a die hard fan of a game means you need a console to play that game on. Would those people really hide away for almost 5 years twiddling their thumbs waiting for the day GT5 is released so they can re-join the gaming world? A total and utter NO.
If these people are out there then they are gaming fans like the rest of us. GT5 will sell loads, but that doesn't mean console sales will be loads. It will have an effect, but it won't be any different to ones we have seen in the past with other games.

My uncle doesn't have a PS3, my uncle also loves car games, my uncle has no clue what the hell a 'forza' is but he still love's car game's. My cousin has a Wii, his also a real estate agent with a nice house, a girlfriend and plenty of work on his hands, his 27 and he also loves car games. My grandma is 72, she still call's everything a playstation, she doesn't know much about video games but she has spent 10 year's of her life watching her grand children playing all of those 'playstations' in her lounge room.
You know what all those people have in common? They all know what Gran Turismo is in the same way that they know what Mario, Grand Theft Auto, Mortal Kombat and Crash Bandicoot is.
Gran Turismo is on a whole different level compared to other racing games, the people we call 'casuals' could probably recognise the name Gran Turismo. The only other racing franchises that matches that sort of recognition is Mario Kart and maybe Need for Speed. When I mention that a new Gran Turismo is being released when I'm at work, everyone, no matter the age, know's what I'm talking about.
If Sony markets GT5 like I'm hoping they will, then maybe all those people who aren't 'hardcore gamers' that played a Gran Turismo in the past will see the ad and be like 'Oh, wow, I remember how much I liked that game, maybe I'll pick up a PS3'.
Anyway, that's my history with GT, nearly everyone I've met and mentioned GT to, know's what the game is and that's a franchise recognition that sell's consoles. You have to remember that not everyone is a hardcore gamer, those 2 million people that bought Battlefield: Bad Company 2 or Fallout 3, they are the limits of the hardcore audience buying power. A game like Forza can stretch it, but only a few ever break out. That's my take anyway and maybe my experience is different to everyone else's.
