Do people expect GT5 to move 3 million consoles? I doubt there are three million people waiting to get a PS3 for one game. I know last gens sales of the GT franchise were huge, but is it the same this gen?
GT5p sold 3.78 million copies (bundled), which is definitely good, but not super awesome huge mega - like. GT on PSP sold 1.3 million, which is not that good.
Racing games are not that popular anymore. Shooter seem to be the best selling genre on th HD consoles. Halo, Modern Warfare, Gears etc.
GT5 will be bundled as well, but I have my doubts it will move hardware as good as people think.
As a racing fan, I already had the chance to play dozens of Racing games. There are 5 Need for Speed games, 2 Forzas, 2 Test Drive Unlimiteds, 1 Race PRO, 2 PGRs, 2 DiRTs, GRID, Ridge Racer, 3 Moto GPs, 2 Nascar, 2 Burnouts, Blur, SpiltSecond and PURE - but that is not all. I think most of the racing fans could have picked a console already.
I really think there are no huge system sellers left for this gen. Look, the 360 will be in its 6th year (!!!) soon. The PS3 will be in its 5th year soon. Both have HUGE libraries. One game won't make people to buy a system at this age.

This is the best post of this thread. GT5 is just not going to do the sales that GT3 did when it comes to console sales. It is a totally different environment.
40 million PS3s already sold vs like 10 million. GT3 showed the world what the PS2 could do. We already know what the PS3 can do. GT5 has been selling PS3s for 5 years now and the GT fanatics (being fanatics) picked up a PS3 for GT5p. So many racers with incredible visuals have already released the gen. Certainly pushing people wanting GT5 over the edge.
Software will sell great and PS3 will sell similiar to last year in November and December.

It makes no difference, they won't listen, and if you point it out you must be a Sony hater!!
Over the past few weeks i have realised that it is pointless to talk to these people. They actually believe GT5 will sell like 3m consoles in a couple of weeks on it's own. Like there is this giant swarm of people somewhere all sat at their PS2's counting down the day's until GT5 release so they can finally upgrade to the almost in it's 5th year PS3! Can you imagine that person? If they were die hard GT fans they must be sick to death of playing the same games over and over on their PS2, they must be rideculed by their friends for being so out of date! Those people would have to be well in their 20s due to GT3 being in 2001 (the best GT game). I am in my 20s. Majority of my friends who had a ps2 have bought a console this gen. My female friends who had a ps2 have a Wii.
I look forward to seeing the pics of these people coming out of their bunkers to see the sun for the first time in almost half a decade on their way to buy a ps3 and GT5, it will be very moving to see this group of people like a migrating heard head off across the savanna to their local game stores. That is if they can remember where it is as would be so long since they have been there! ;)

I'm not saying you guys are wrong, you could be right. But the problem is, you're arguing over theories. We won't have an answer until the game releases, and when that answer arrives, it's going to end in a very ugly meltdown, if this fighting keeps up.

I wasen't talking about you dude just people in general.
It reminds me a bit of Downfall where Hitler is in his bunker, bombing all around him, ceeiling is falling apart, allies are all over Berlin. And he looks at his map and thinks a German army will appear from nowhere and save his bacon. While his generals give him the look of "er we have no army"!
It is simmilar as some people actually think there is this group out there somewhere! It just defies logic.
Because the main part of this belief is that they are Gran Turismo die hard fans. Fair enough. But to be a die hard fan of a game means you need a console to play that game on. Would those people really hide away for almost 5 years twiddling their thumbs waiting for the day GT5 is released so they can re-join the gaming world? A total and utter NO.
If these people are out there then they are gaming fans like the rest of us. GT5 will sell loads, but that doesn't mean console sales will be loads. It will have an effect, but it won't be any different to ones we have seen in the past with other games.
