Forums - Sales - Wii Play...best selling game ever?

Well right now it sits at 46th best selling game of all time. While it is doing well, I think it will slow down because of 2 main reasons. 1. Games by nature slow in sales 2. More Wii branded games are coming out soon which will divert some sales towards those games.

I think a good part of why Wii Play is so popular is because its in the Wii franchise (WiiSports, WiiPlay, WiiMusic, WiiFit). Once WiiFit and WiiMusic come out, WiiPlay wont be as popular. Right now its just the only choice. I do think, however, it will eclipse the top 15 with around 15 million copies sold by the end of this generation of gaming.

Why doesn't anyone know about Wii Chess??? It's the FOURTH game in the franchise, and Wii Music is the FIFTH!!!

Wii Music is the only yet announced one in the series that won't be released before 2008... Wii Chess will be released before 31/12/2007 in Europe.

not heard of wii chess lol.

How good can the Wii Chess sales become when no one actually knows that the game will exist in no more than 28 days!?!?!?

Of course, all Wii owners are buying Wii play. It's simple, and moderately fun, but if history is made, and Play becomes the best selling game of all time, then I will be so dissapointed. Wii play is just a tech demo for the Wii-remote. I can't consider it a complete game.

All games are tech demos.

Demonstrations of technology.

P.S.: I enjoy Wii Play & don't think of it as half-a-game. Very well done title that one was. Very accessible.

Guys, of course it'll never beat Wii Sports or SMB. I'm talking about games that AREN'T bundled with a console.

I think it has a high chance of getting 18 million copies sold.

Well, let's look at this way:

Wii Play has an attachment rate of about 45% in all territories (both in weekly and LTD sales as far as I can verify). This will likely continue being the case while no other title is bundled with a Wiimote. If that's the case until the end of 2008, Wii Play will have sold between 18 and 27 million copies (using 40-60 million as the range of Wiis sold LTD). It could continue selling a lot beyond 2008, who knows...

BTW, a statistic which I'd like to see is how many Wiimotes have been sold so far. The average number of Wiimotes per Wii is at the very least 1.45 due to the 45% Wii Play attachment rate. More likely, it's between 2 and 3 Wiimotes per console.

18 million? Hmm, sounds high. Perhaps, but I doubt it, and besides; it'd still be miles away from the original SMB.

My take is Nintendogs will be the best selling game of all time. It still sells really well in the West, and is already at 15+ million units.

i doubt nintendo will bundle the wiimote with another game as many people already have 4 remotes, a new zapper like controller is very possible

That's very unlikely.  I seriously doubt it will outsell Pokemon RGB at 31 million.
