Judging by who the OP is, I'm going to assume this is a trolling thread meant to invoke a response. It's a pretend attack on the game, that the average minded person would find ludcrious. We are meant to think that this is bias in disguise, but it's really not. I doubt the OP has any opinion towards the actual subject at all, or iroinically, actually disagrees with his own OP, or in all likelyhood, like myself, finds the subject nonsensical in every possible definition of the word.
However, I will comment on the OP as if it were a serious post, because you never really know for sure. IMO, I don't think there is reason in this case to impart emotion into the characters of a 2D donkey kong game, and furthermore, in the case of this game, which is meant to be humorous and surreal, it is completely and utterly insignificant. Rare didn't add any emotional depth in the original games(a false belief of the OP), because there really is no reason to. The game isn't story based, and there isn't a hidden theme of loss or someother such nonsense. It's utterly rediculious to believe otherwise imo, and anyone who reads or experiences any emotional depth into Donkey fucking Kong smiling a toothy grin and giving a thumbs up at the end of a 2d platforming level is obviously playing the game for the wrong reasons.
Also, Retro is a far better developer than you give them credit for, which again, I feel you added to stir controversy, and not because you or anyone actually believes that.
