Forums - Microsoft - Rumor: Microsoft Says Kinect Not $150! Gives New Price!

arcane_chaos said:

I said this in another Kinect thread awhile back: I used to think Kinect was expensive(and it stiill pretty much is) but if people drop $100 or more on a rockband/guitar hero pack why not spend money to get a gaming peripheral for around the same price that will come with a gaming library dedicated for it alone(added more thought in this post)

EDIT: if the price of Kinect does drop it will most likely equal more sale for Kinect.

btw: how much does Kinect cost MS to make?

Who knows? It could either be >$150 but they priced it as they did to try to balance between not making too much of a loss and getting sales, or it could be <$100 and they want to make a decent profit on every Kinect they sell. Personally I think the latter, because MS really only use the XBox console itself as a loss leader and all the peripherals are sold for a tidy profit.

I m not surprise at all

they have room for the pricing so I would not be curprise to see a kinect at 100$ as some were spculating some weeks ago

Time to Work !

well it's a rumor, also ms said they will price it according to pre orders, i still think that they are cashing in big time, 100 dollars is a lot for it.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

Don't get pulled in by the sales mentality trick, they show you the best and most expensive option then slowly work their way down to make it seem not as bad. =P It's a standard tactic and I'm going to say that even it's 120 at launch, I still think it's too much money.

You guys do realize it still doesn't work right, it needs a ton of space, voice commands sometimes work, needs decent lighting, needs you to keep your distance for any other people (including 2ed player), the only games that control decently and that don't make you look like an idiot are dance central and the yoga one, it's pretty clear full body games are the only games it will be decent for, so how is 120 a bargain, or 100 or even 50 for that matter? And if you think MS will fix the issues after it comes out let me remind you, they just fixed the issues with the 360s cooling system a month ago after being on the market for 5 years and I'm not even sure if its fixed but the giant fan on the circuit board leads me to believe it should be

Even at $120 it's still too high of a price IMO. Without an Xbox 360, which seems to be the majority of people they're marketing this thing for, you're still talking a good $460 for a new console, Kinect, and a game.

Even if you already own a 360 and want Kinect you need to shell out $180 for the hardware and a game, which is essentially as much as a Wii with Wii Sports Resort.

If MS wants any sort of success with this shovelware filled console add on, they need to release it at $100 TOPS.

How about $120 and the Sports and Adventure title bundled?

plus, they already announced a bundle with the core unit for $299.  so no, it won't be 460.  Plus, microsoft always holiday bundles games, so the kinect bundle will probably come with more games as well.

I think people will just keep playing Wii Sports, and upgrade to NSMBW. and then DKCR. By the time Kinect launches the economic environment will be different, it's gonna take a lot of inertia to make Kinect a success, and then only the product itself will sustain its popularity.

From what I've seen thus far, it doesn't seem like something unique, just better. And we've seen a lot of that in gaming. Kinect being a success, I'm not betting against it but I wouldn't bet on it.

Microsoft already announced the price of Kinect

Guys, this thread is over a month old.   It was just bumped for some strange reason.
