Forums - Sales - Konami Expects MGS:Peace Walker to sell 3 MILLION Worldwide!

I reckon Peace Walker has a chance of hitting 2 Mil but it won't hit 3 Mil. If it was a PS3 game then hell yeah it could easily sell 3 Mil but because it's on a heavily pirated handheld, 3 Mil is very unlikely.

I think they can sell 3M to store shelves, but not costumers due to the high piracy of PSP games.   On the other hand if PW was on PS3   it would sell more than 3M to costumers; because the game is way too awesome!!

2Million is doable at retail. Hope there's a heavy heavy sales on the Online Distribution front but I doubt that would be more than 300K world wide. Still, you never know.

EDIT: You know what, I take this back. I'm sure this can sell at least 2.5M at retail.

Metal Gear Arcade adds 3D and other features to PS3's Metal Gear Online.

Konami CEO Fumiaki Tanaka has high hopes for Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker sales. In a Nikkei BP interview that was conducted prior to Peace Walker's international release, Tanaka said Konami anticipates 3 million in worldwide sales for the PSP title.

So far, the game appears to be offer to a good start. Tanaka described Japanese sales following the game's April 29 release as "according to expectations."

Ignoring that, look at the data. MGS is a bigger franchise than GoW yet Chain's of Olympus was able to do it and without the impressive Japanese sales.

I think MGS has a fair chance if GoW can do it without being labeled and totted as a full and important entry in the franchise like MGS:PW is getting. Dark Resurrection, a port of a PS2 game that came a year before it managed to do 2Million on PSP. The Disgaea series is also an example of how a series can do extremely well compared to it's console entries when the Publisher/Developer puts in the effort.

Chains of Olympus released in a much healthier western PSP market than Peace Walker will.  And since you brought up Dark Resurrection, why not take a moment to look at how Tekken 6 has performed on PSP recently?  Same thing with the recent Nippon Ichi games (Classic Dungeon, Absolute Hero, Prinny 2, etc)?  Those titles might give you a better idea what the current PSP software climate is like...

CoO was released 2 years ago and still pushes significant and stable figures today. The launch sales difference between CoO and PW aren't that huge in America. Europe sales, not so much but that region has been known for better legs.

Unlike Tekken5, Tekken 6PSP launched with 2 counterpart versions on the HD systems that took up pretty much any advertisement the publisher bothered to put out. I wish I could compare but the sales figures on this site for past tekken's don't seem accurate. From what I understand though, Tekken 6 on consoles isn't selling as well as past entries. Not to mention, the HD counterparts were heavily criticized even though the got decent reviews [not nearly as well as 1-3 and 5].

Don't know what to say about those NIS games except they all sound like new IP's I haven't even heard of except Prinny. Disgaea's NiS' biggest series and adding up the retail sales of every entry in the series (8 games) doesn't even net you 1 million sales according to this site. I wouldn't be surprised if the sales of those NIS game were fine for what they were.

CoO was also heavily bundled.  Of course, same can be said for PW, but it's EU debut (traditionally MGS' strongest market) isn't exactly encouraging.

T5 also had a PS2 release before and a (superior) PSN release soon after, so it's not like DR PSP wouldn't have had competitive platform releases.  And Absolute Hero was the new game from the Disgaea team and heavily promoted as such.  It bombed.  Prinny 2 and Classic Dungeon were lower profile though, but they both did horribly considering that even.  I think the fact that NISA has essentially stopped announcing any PSP localizations that aren't Disgaea related is pretty telling too...

All I'm really saying here though is that the western PSP market today isn't what it was 2-3 years ago, and looking exclusively at games released back then sort of clouds what realistic expectations should be today.

I'm downloading the game now, so I contributed, I was gonna wait for the rumored PSN HD release, but I'm weak :(
