Forums - Sales - Metroid: Other M sales predictions thread

Extrem unlikely is no fact.. .

@ Khuutra. A  game is successful when it is a critical and financial success. And yes, a game can be successful WITHOUT hitting the expectations.. It is like everything... example: the movie "the princess and the frog". It was a huge financial and critical success, but Disney was disappointed... So what? Was it a flop? LOOOOL This is the way you want to prove something...

I have reached a point where your dismissiveness of the reasons that I'm laying out has become an obstacle for conversation. If you want to phrase your points in a more constructive and respectful way, I would be glad to continue speaking with you.

It´s useless, oni-link. Some people know the future because they have a crystal ball on their desk -.- And they don´t care, if a game makes a profit. A game is only successful, when they say it is ^^

A game is successful when it hits the metric for success that its producers set. Every indication is against Other M ever doing that.

Then most capcom games this gen aren't successes?

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

If the people in charge of determining sales expectations say so, then yes.

Some things are likely enough to be treated as fact.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

I told you a lot of times, that we can finish this discussion when we have some more numbers (!). In a year or so. NOW it looks like OM doesn´t sell very well in Europe and worse than corruption in USA. Thats all for now. What do you don´t get? Maybe I can help you ^^ Seriously. I understand your point, and well, you don´t seem to understand my point of view... Nothing more to say (for now)

@ Demotruk: Fortunately, in reality, facts and things you want to see as facts are two diifferent things. ;)

Oh, no, I understand your point of view perfectly. You're saying that the information we have now doesn't lend itself to reasonable conclusions being drawn.

You're wrong.

Yeah, it kinda' reminds me when I had to defend the Punch-Out and WarioLand:Shake it during their first year.  People in this site wrote it off...and now look both sold over a million and still selling close to full price!!!

No you're wrong Khuutra, this thing is kinda' like basketball in which you can't determine the outcome during the first quarter of the game when there is still 3 more quarters to go.  With only 7 weeks of sale this isn't even the full first quarter...not by a loooooonnnngggg shot!!!  This game will hit 800K by Aug2011 and probably 1M by the end of it's lifetime.  Not bad for a game that did not score as critically better than either Corruption, Echoes or Prime.  Speaking of which the last two console managed to average only 1.3M between them so I am still waiting for your fantasy that Nintendo SAID: they expected to sell 3M copies of Other M!!!!

Thel ast line has already been dismissed; they expected it to break the 2 million barrier, though, and it will never get that far.

Your analogy is flawed, because sales patterns and basketball games do not follow similar trends. You can't predict (entirely) how three quarters will go based on the first; in sales for an established series, you can make a pretty good guess, especially for a game that dropped as fast and as hard as this one has.

1 million is not a good number for this game. You're wrong.
