When aligned the Wii also has a install base advantage over the PS2 by around 5 million. Considering that it is far less surprising that the Wii is outperforming the PS2 with software sales as well.

PS2 can't sell software: Confirmed!

Wii piracy is actually easier to do than PS2 piracy too btw.  All you need is an SD card or USB drive and a copy of Zelda to install HBC, on PS2 you actually had to chip your console.

Actually, it has gotten a whole lot easier as time has gone on. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is no longer required, there are plenty of other exploits around to take advantage of if you wan't to run the Hackmii Installer or any such application to install the Homebrew channel, DVDx or Bootmii.

How technical is your game?

It hasn't set in quite yet, but within the next year or so I fully expect piracy to start crippling Wii software sales the same way it has PSP and DS.

I believe something of that degree may already be taking place in European territories. I cannot seem to wrap my head around the relatively poultry software sales that are generated here otherwise. Maybe i'm giving piracy too much credit here, but i know of quite a few individuals - more than i believed i'd known - who forgo purchasing Wii (as well as DS and PSP) software because they have deep enough knowledge of how to pirate them.

No, I think your instincts are on.  Europe tends to be the tipping point for piracy overtaking platforms, it was with PS1, with Dreamcast, with PSP and now it's the region where DS has deflated first.  I expect Wii next year to be in much the same position DS is now.

I am pretty confident that most WII games are not good. Only games like mario, zelda and the other firts party games actually deserve such sales. PS2 games were of quality and that is something the WII can't replicate at the moment.

you can and can't blame Nintendo on this.

its their fault that they made no effort for piracy and no effort to up their tech

and its third parties fault that they didn't do anything special for the wii.

I'm tired of hearing people say that third parties don't try much for the wii. Monster Hunter Trii is an awesome game and so is No more heroes and I'm sure many other games as well. The problem is, the wii owners buy mostly Mario and Party games. What would you do if you were a developer? Try to make a great game and get poor sales or make yet another "party" game with little effort and get great sales?

you probably right i am a core gamer at hart. Thats is going to get a Wii this xmas and the only games i want are a few nintendo games and 1 or 2 party games that caught my eye

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

Reggie is citing USA NPD figures for this - worldwide Wii is behind PS2 for software now. Its tracking between PS1 & PS2 though, and probably set to reach 1.2b units of software or so.

Wii's been out for 4 years and sold close to 500 million software, 63 million of that is from a bundled game, so really 440 million.

The PS2 has been out for 10 years and sold 1.5 billion, in order for the Wii to beat the PS2 it'll have to continue to sell for another 7 years and keep selling at the same exact pase that it sold in it's first 4 years (best years the Wii going to have).

Doesn't look like Wii's going to get anywhere near the PS2, in the end the Wii should be close to a billion.
