I am not pleased about this at all. I didn't like Mario Hoops 3-on-3 and lost faith that Square-Enix could develop a quality Mario title. I always wondered who was making Mario Sports Mix but i didn't expect it to be a third party. I was praying for Camelot to be in charge of this but i knew it just wasn't going to happen.

I suppose i should keep an open mind for now, though Square-Enix are far from my favorite developers.

How technical is your game?

didn't see that coming.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

They're pretty much whoring out Mario to bad developers now :(

I quite honestly don't know why people like the latest FF games so much... I think they're horrible, the old ones were imo far better...

Wow, this is probably one of the lamest ideas ever and people are chomping at the bit for it.  Waste a talented company like Square-Enix on something unnecessary like yet another Mario-themed sports game.  Shameful.  If they're really going to hand Squeenix a Nintendo franchise to play with, couldn't it have been something, you know, better suited to Squeenix's talents?

I'm just throwing this out there but... Earthbound... StarTropics...?

EarthBound is not by any stretch of the imagination suited to Square-Enix's "talents".

At least Earthbound is actually an RPG.  Come to think of it, it's battle system seemed to have things in common with Dragon Quest.

No, Mother/EarthBound Zero had some things in common with Dragon Quest, in that it was a Dragon Quest clone from a mechanical perspective (though this was thematically intentional and even important). EarthBound is a bigger break away from Dragon Quest than any other turn-based RPG there is.

The point concerning EarthBound not fitting Square-Enix's talents is that it's the brain child of Shigesato Itoi, and everything that is good about that series comes out of the way he looks at narrativ in gaming, and how narrative functions as an aspect of mechanics. Square-Enix's approach to storytelling and mechanics is the exact opposite, where narrative and mechanics have little or nothing to do with each other. Giving EarthBound to Square-Enix's RPG squads (any of them) would be akin to giving 2-D Mario to Naugty Dog. Naughty Dog are great, but 2-D platformers are not where their talent base lies.

More, your'e ignoring the fact that Square-Enix is not exclusively an RPG company. They make action games too! Even sports games. They are a lot less one-note than you are allowing them.
