When I noticed that Twilight Princess would feature a right-handed only Link, I was pissed off, as I thought it would screw my experience. However, in the end, it was just to adjust better to right-handed people so they wouldn't get confused with Wii Remote and Nunchuk. However, I'm really worried about Skyward Sword: with the Wii MtionPlus, the gameplay will be affected considering your playing hand. It makes me wonder: will Nintendo include an option to choose Link's hand in the game or left-handed people will be f***** up with screwed controls suited for right-handed people only?

How do you currently play left handed in games that require the nunchuk? The lefties I know still put the wiimote in right hand.

I feel uncomfortable using it on the right hand. But, in fact, the only game I have which could be a trouble to me is Sonic Unleashed (Werehog left punch = Nunchuk/my right hand; right punch = Wii Remote/my left hand), but as both are the same, there's no problem.

And in Wii Sports Resort, I've only noticed trouble with this left/right option with two games: Wakeboarding (in which I have to take the Wii Remote from one hand to another) and Archery (which makes difficult to aim, at least to me).

I just think it would be a shame if Nintendo didn't think about this option, as Link is originally left-handed as well.

I've watched videos of people holding wiimote in their left hand and did just fine, unless you have an issue with ingame image not matching yourself and make mistakes because of it, it shouldn't be a problem.

The answer to your question:

Aonuma on whether there will be a lefty option in Skyward Sword…

“It’s interesting because people say ‘all you have to do is switch it.’ But in reality, it’s really hard. You have to change all the models — you have to make two of everything. So really you’re making two complete games, one left-handed version and one right-handed version. We just can’t do that. For Twilight Princess, what we did was just create a mirror — we flipped everything. And if that worked I guess we could do it that way, but again having to create two games is not something we want to do. We just hope that people will play it right-handed.”

Ambidexterous people FTW!!!

why do they have to switch everything around? like mirror it? why not just put the sword in the other hand and be done with it? seems like it would be easier and be still the same game.

Meh, it will still be great and you'll learn to deal with it like any other game.

It's easy for you to say that, but for me, at least, this is a lack of consideration for fans. Link is originally left-handed. If Aonuma thinks it won't affect gameplay, then why make him right-handed? I really didn't like it and I already stated months ago this would be the greatest shame Nintendo could do with this fucking game. I'm not buying it anymore.

Think the positive side: you'll use the shield better than anybody else.

I'm not sure I understand.

What keeps you from using the remote in your left hand for Skyward Sword?

It would be rather distorting, considering that what, to Link, would be an outward swing will now, to you, have to go across your chest. With higher precision it matters more, i think.

But it's the point only that it goes from left-to-right, and right-to-left?

I don't see the problem, mechanically.

@Maneco:

A mirrored Link wouldn't solve the problem. They'd also need to redo all of his animations and interactions with every object in the game from scratch.

Sorry man.

Most left-handed people learnt to be two-handed because everthing is made for right-handed people. So a switch shouldn't be that bad. You probably had to do that before.

Anyway, I think Khuutra is right about using your left hand for the wii-mote. The game doesn't care if its half a meter to the left. It cares how it swings.
