From a company point of view, the 3DS will help Sony as 3D will become more of a mainstream technology that everyone wants. So, they have the opportunity to sell more TVs, movies, etc.

However, from future PSP point of view, there is a reason no PSP2 has been mentioned yet. It will have a 3D screen (probably same screen) when Sony finally shows it off. If they don't they will lose the market share the current PSP has gained.

Lmao so when nintendo does something now, sony has to follow? That's not a correct assesment.. sony already said they don't think it's a good idea to implement 3d on a handheld.. Why would they make a 3D PSP?  What they can do is make the PSP a phone..

Well.... they said the same about motion controllers... and everybody knows how it ended =D

Of course sony is glad... now, they know what psptwo is getting xD

Sony is glad because 3DS stole all the hype from kinect and consequently no one cares about kinect anymore, and motion control is already yesterdays news. and for all those people who keep saying sony is copying nintendo etc, didnt sony announce 3D support before nintendo???

I was just talking about the next handheld, not home console.

Motion control is yesterday news? Then sony and MS are stupid for focusing on that in their conferences i guess

Sony didnt focus on motion control, there are over 70 million wii users, i think the next big thing is 3DS not another motion control device; its been done already. although i admit i'm keen on PS move and dead space extraction, heavy rain and little big planet 2 motion control.

Well.... they did focus on the move. They are barely going to release the move... so yeah, the next step for sony is motion controls... at least on the ps3. For nintendo, is 3D...at least, on the 3DS

Why would Sony feel threatened by the 3DS? If it is indeed a big succes(wich i think it will be) Sony can just release a 3D capable and more powerfull PSP to get some of the cake for themselves.

Because a lot of the PSP's success was based on third parties investing so heavily in it. It probably seemed like a surer thing than the more experimental DS, especially since the Playstation brand seemed nearly invincible at the time.

But if the 3DS gets all the third party support before the PSP2 is even announced and is providing the console-like experiences that the PSP is known for, Sony might well be fxxxed.

Firstly if we want to be technical it's not the same tech and secondly, just because people are willing to spend $200 on a 3D handheld doesn't mean they are going to shell out $2000 for a 3D TV.

it's pushing the 3d sectorand also after the 3ds they can copie the whole concept :D

They focused mainly on multiplatform and first party exclusives. move was discussed for a short period, but their conference was mainly about games. M$ on the other hand focused most of their conference on kinect.

Sort of like how they were pleased with how the Wii was introducing new people to gaming, so they may later "graduate" to the PS3? It's kind of funny how the 3DS is in a similar situation, by introducing people to one of PS3's features, even though it's a handheld. Nintendo just can't escape!

Well, it's like they say... The PS3: It only does everything!

Genious!

Both you for revealing the strategy and them for trying so hard.
:P

lol I love my DS but damn :S 3DS is driving people nuts...lol Sony do NOT need 3d for their handhelds...and i hope they steer away from it too cuz that's not the type of games they are good at....and let's see once the next psp is announced to do the whole sony is the doomzed yeah? WAY too early for all this

are you saying Sony is not good at making 3D games?

ugh you know that 3D on a handheld will be different experience than on the consoles right? I'm referring to handhelds..from my experience psp is amazing when it comes to games like Chains of Olympus, dead head Fred, Crisi core and Patapon...I REALLY do not wanna see these games in 3d...but donkey kong? sure why not...so such games should be kept to the 3ds...they shud do their own thing....

and just to clarify that your spin is wrong, GT5 and KZ3 had a pretty good feedback from the media...not many mainstream games have done that for 3D, so on the console front, they will be great at 3D gaming

Well Sony shouldn't be pleased because now most people like me are going to try out the 3ds see that it works without using glasses and demand that sony and other manufacturers make a 3d tv at an affordable price that works without glasses.

We are probably many years away from seeing that happen and most people have just started to get their hdtvs so they are not going to want to upgrade.  And most people in the US at least probably got their new hdtv's as an impulse buy because they were scared that they wouldn't be able to watch tv anymore after the tv and cable companies stopped supporting analog signals.

well was reading IGN's thoughts on 3DS earlier and one guy mentioned how he actually thought the 3D for the 3DS looked better than it did for the Killzone 3 game in 3D
