Forums - Nintendo - What price does 3DS needs to be successful?

I think it could be as high as $300 at launch first year

as the normal non-gaming following people,by the name only think of it as an update like DSi,ds lite,DSiXL so they will still be buying 3DS if not now in the future as they love DS

then they can reduce price next year when costs are down to really push

also as PSP is not posing any competition in the WEST,Nintendo can price it high as its cost's will be high too

if 3DS is cheap to make and Nintendo wants to push it from the getgo then $200 would be best

no it won't be that hight i predict it will be 200-250$ at launch anyway it could cost 350$ and i still would get it on launch. day.

Over 9000!!!

Just kidding, but I think it should be around but above 200 dollars because, like you said, sony isn't releasing a PSP2 so far, but they might reveal it TGS. But if they do, I'm guessing the PSP2 would cost more than the 3DS would at launch so above but around 200 still sounds good. Also, if Nintendo release the 3DS around 200$, people can justify a purchase of a DSi or DSi XL. I'm thinking Nintendo wants to sell the DS handhelds like how Sony sold their PS3 which was selling several models and letting the best one be a little bit more expensive than the cheaper or cheapest one.

I can't see the 3DS being over 300$, although I think that is a justfied price for such an advanced system. I'm pretty sure Nintendo played around with the 3DS hardware to find the most cheapest and durable component. However, people are really impressed by the 3D, but to what aspect I'm not sure. If they are just impressed that its 3D and it works than the 3DS should be under 300$. I don't think graphics cost a lot for the 3DS because the smaller screen and resolution of it is could make the graphics look better than it actually is if it was to be bigger.

I think it needs to be $200 to have the huge sales of the Wii or DS. I think it can still do well at $250 for awhile. At $300 or more I think they could be getting themselves in a lot of trouble.

Pricing wise it is interesting because Nintendo really hasn't done much in the way of pricecuts for the DS. So a starting point of $300 or more for the 3DS would concern me because Nintendo may want to leave it at that initial price for a long time.

3DS at $299 will be good for now as PSP isn't posing an competition and DS is still selling

but they can reduce it next year when PSP2 launches

$249 would be justifiable and sell really well. $200 and they'd be taking a loss I imagine, and $300 is a little pricy for the mainstream. Guess it depends on if they wanna make money or put even more of a strangle-hold on the handheld market.

well, they aren't showing off any expanded audience games (nintendogs no longer counts because it's now core), so they might just want ds owners to upgrade for now before trying to expand outward to new markets. not sure what that says about price though.

come try out the computer game i've been working on for my high school senior project, titled sling ball. http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=76669&page=1

In between US$ 200 and 250. Perhaps they will bundle a couple of downloadable games or credit for doing so.

I would buy it around $200 anymore and I have to pass until later. That goes for any game system though.

Nintendo won't release 3DS @ $300. No way in hell, ever.

I predict $199.99, at the most.
