I'm not hyped for it at all. Being the "only first person shooter" back then fuels my nostalgia. Being "just another first person shooter" now does not bode well. I seriously doubt the game's meta-score will average more that a 7.5.

When was it ever the only FPS?

Hence the quotation marks. I'm aware of Wolfenstein, Duke Nukem, Powerslave, Doom, Turok, etc. that were available years before or around the same time. It's just that, at the time, it was THE first person shooter. It was the only one that mattered.

If you qualify your statement as the only FPS that mattered on the consoles, then you have a point. The PC had moved beyond what Goldeneye had to offer when it was released.

I can't deny that. And, since console gaming has grown more and more "PC like" since then, the future for Goldeneye on the Wii looks even more bleak. But hey, Nostalgia is a powerful thing. If anything, it will probably sell well.

Well, it looks like they are marketing the nostalgia but making a modern FPS. I'm definitely interested because I can't turn down a good FPS on the Wii (since there aren't that many of them -- yet -- there are four major FPSs coming out within a year), but I read there are only 5 multiplayer maps and I'm not happy about that at all. It could be a deal breaker considering there's Conduit 2 (online gameplay and maps look great so far), Black Ops, and Future Soldier (I do, however, expect the Wii version of Future Soldier to be seriously gimped, but I'm trying to stay possitive) to choose from as well.

I also find it surprising that Activision would release two major FPSs on the system in the same time frame, so maybe Goldeneye isn't expected to be all that special.
