Forums - Nintendo - Yet another rubbish opinion on why the Wii will fail

Well its apparent that just because Nintendo lost all its third party developers during the N64 era that this fool thinks that it's nintendo's fault. However, this is somewhat faulty logic considering that by increasing their marketshare they will attract more developers seeking profit. Yes it will increase casual titles as well. Does anyone remember the playstation, man there was tons of trash games. Maybe not 'as' casual. If all of nintendo's profitability came from casual titles then we could start talking, but since Mario is selling like crazy.

Oh and the wii is only casual when this comes out http://www.psxa2z.com/gpgs/BT0129.html

If Wii sales dropped to half their current (scratch that; make it pre-holiday) levels for the next 2 years, I think it would still be considered a success simply because of this phenomenal 1st year.

agreed, I mean it already practically beat gamecube and turned a profit. Practically resurrecting Nintedo from going the way of Sega. I would consider that a success. Of course, its just a fad. Like pogs, nanopets and AIDS.(I don't know where I was going with the AIDS thing).

The Wii cannot sell less than 50m in its entire lifetime. There's no way. Even if third-party developers stopped releasing games at all, and Nintendo was the only company to release anything, it would still put out enough to reach the 50m mark. And that's on the negative side of things.

See, after having been out for over a year now, it's outlived the "fad" stage. From here out, with stuff like Wii Fit, Wii Sports, and Wii Play, too many people are interested in it. I still play Wii Sports and Wii Play from time to time, and I'm not even a casual gamer. I'm willing to wager that the Wii would have gone through its entire lifespan (approximately 6 years for something of this sort) and broken the 25m mark off of just those three games.

2011: "The Wii is just a fad, it dominating for the last 5 years has been a fluke, its wiimote is a gimmick."

people are just mad the underdog is winning this time around

Because the Nintendo DS was a fad that only lasted a few months.

Seriously, why bother with such ignorance?

Wii = DS: Look similar. Innovative. Not as powerful as the competition. Cheap. Winning.
PSP = PS3: Look similar. Powerful. Expensive. Losing.

Cause, y'know, history has shown that people who have 5 movies in their DVD collection just stop buying movies after that.

It's not like Nintendo is CREATING a casual gaming market. They just wanted to capitalize on an already-existing casual market. Online puzzle games have been selling like hotcakes for years now. Almost every parent has played HOURS of Solitaire or Minesweeper. The casual gamers have always been there.

And casual gamers spend lots of money on games. They always have and always will. Now they can have a console to satisify that need.

That's why I have always said that Microsoft should advertise the hell out of Live Arcade. That service would make some of these casual gamers EXTREMELY happy.

My End of 2008 Hardware Predictions (console only):

Wii : 50 million

360: 28 million

PS3: 24 million

These predictions were made on January 3rd and won't be revised
