Definitly buying on of those ! looks awesome

  Kinect! who needs video games!

If that's it, I'm pretty glad I don't have to buy another 360.

Just looking at the lines I'm not sure how it would look laying on its side and that's unfortunately the only option I have for my consoles.

sorry can you explain that again?  what are you getting at?

if the board is smaller and you throw in a HDD and wifi and maybe lose the external brick wouldnt that make this plausible?

Oh... and I was hoping for a slot drive too....

Ok

  • External power brick probably remains (motherboard leak)
  • HDD Wifi don't take up much space, especially internally. Wifi is no bigger than your thumb and a 2.5" HDD is vastly smaller than a 3.5" drive.
  • The Xbox 360 pulls around 80W from internal components. Based on the previous shrinks they ought to be using between 45-60W for the shrunk chips. They don't need all that space for 45-60W IMO so IMO it opens up the possibility that they might have pulled a Wii*.

*What I mean by pulling a Wii is a slight hardware update which increases performance 2-3* over the original whilst using the same basic but improved architecture. My reasoning is that its the best window to release new hardware for the next 1-2 years because all they need is "good enough 3D" to keep them going for the next 4-5 years before they do their proper in one update with Natal 2 and the Xbox 3.0 (if they release an Xbox 2.5)

So you're saying this will be an Xbox 3D? But do you expect 3D only games, or this console to just allow 360 games to run in 3D?

I actually hope you are right.... I want a new gen now!!!!

(I get bored easily and I am a bit of a gadget slag)

Im a gadget whore too and im always too optimistic.

In any case I saw a few videos of a Natal interface on TVs. Since only high end 3D TVs would implement the interface then they'd need to make a case where all the games released on the Xbox are 3D enabled. In addition to this they'd probably want another core to manage any ancilliary functions like DVR recording etc.

Since games are being made today with 3D, DX11 (from PC) in mind they can capture the early adopter market for that and furthermore they can price the Xbox Kinect higher than the original price and add more features like Blu Ray and position it as a complete home entertainment system because half the goodness from Kinect is in the media interface and NOT having Blu ray would be counter productive IMO at least. Its especially true when you're wearing 3D glasses and using a remote is even harder.

Im probably wrong, but at least its only going to be a couple of hours until the chips are down.

It could be... I can't say. Im just throwing up one alternative possibility which has absolutely no support from any real leak or rumour. Every Xbox 360 game could be run in 3D with some success if they had more powerful hardware. They control the entire software/hardware and they can simply spoof the camera position and rerun the shaders etc. It won't be as pretty in corner cases where one eye would see something not originally rendered but it would work.

It looks like one of those extremely ugly "gamer" style PC cases crossed with an x360. This rumoured redesign will appeal to teenagers want their electronics to look like transformers but can't afford an awsum $2000 Alienware PC. I just wonder how MS is going to sell Wii owners on a console that looks that bad.

Astro Studios, the designer of the "Xbox 360 Plus" has also worked on Alienware PC design. Go figure.

My very honest appraisal is if that is what the new model looks like I am supremely disappointed. That is perhaps the most hideous console design I have ever seen. Perhaps it is the perspective, but does that thing have acute angles. Does it have one end larger then another. Hell is it concave all the way around.

Honestly based on the picture. I am going to make the assumption that it is a bad art students rendering on a computer. I just couldn't imagine that fascade making it past a focus testing group. The only way I might imagine that thing looking good is if it had neon lights in those vents.

Mmm...i wonder if BP pitched the color the console should be.

No, that's not authentic. I refuse to believe it. It doesnt look bad, but like many have said it looks too sharp and agressive.

it seems bigger than the old 360.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^
