Forums - Nintendo - NamcoBandai- "avg. quality of DS/Wii games is very bad", market collapse

http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=126437

“It’s a tough market. We had a lot of product, and the average quality of a game on DS and Wii is very, very bad. So in the mind of the consumer today, to buy a DS or Wii game is to buy a game that isn’t very good. One of the reasons the DS collapsed is piracy, it is very clear, but also it is a fantastic machine and very easy to develop for. It was possible for three kids in a garage to make a game for it. DS is the most successful platform ever, but all my kids’ friends at school have a DS with an R4. They have 100 games for no money. So yes, the market has collapsed for the DS and Wii.” - Namco Bandai’s VP of sales, marketing and publishing Olivier Comte

They definitely did a lot to fix that now didn't they?

They are right on Wii but on DS, WHAT!

DS has the best library out there.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I don't know why they're complaining. Their presence on either platform has been minimal.

More like their quality on either platform is minimal. The presence is signifcant (which is the part of the problem itself):

well even if they try to fix it they cant do it alone. Also they are right in what they say, hopefully the 3ds is not hackable.

So he uses his kid's friends as a representative sample... bullshit. I took statistics, and that's not the kind of survey you do. Either he's a fool or spinning things to get a result he wants.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I agree I know about 3 people with R4 chips and they are always trying to get me to buy an R4 (Because I'm poorer then they are). But I think their are alot of consumers like me out their who refuse to pirate software. If Nintendo's market had completely collapsed then how would Nintendo still ship 10 million units.

I agree with him that the quality of DS and Wii software is down, more so Wii then DS but still both platforms have alot of low quality shovel ware. I think Nintendo's consoles as third party devices have hit the crash of the 80's. Essentially other then a few games the rest all suffer dismal sales.

But I don't think it is as bad as the 80's for Nintendo themselves and a few developers have managed to still sell and push software. In the end I would love to see NamcoBandai doing more Nintendo titles. I loved NamcoBandai collaborations with Nintendo on the GameCube, seriously Donkey Konga and Star Fox Assualt were games I truly enjoyed. (I know theirs alot of Assualt haters out their but I enjoyed it).

I think I have a different understanding of "collapse" than whoever translated this article. Or this executive.

The average Wii/DS game is pretty low quality, but there are more games made for them than any other console. Therefore, averages mean nothing.

Pot, meet kettle...

And the part about the DS is a complete non-sequitir;  not a single sentence logically relates to the sentence that precedes or follows it.
