Forums - Sales - Why aren't Sony/Microsoft making their own balance board?

Sony has Wii tek and the Eye. 2 in one so both are covered

But both miss out on weighing app. Thats why WiiFit sold so much.

It sold with this fact alone Up to 10 year data of your everyday weighing to keep track of weight gain or lost

Do you know how revolutionary that is Dude. You can't find somthing like that anywere!!!!!!  That made even Jim membership drop 50% on the hole planet. hehe just BS It would be a funny bit of information to get a hand on though. Its is imposible it did not have a influence on Jim membership in my mind.

You can have 10 years of data and it makes 4 diffrent graphs that tell you alot about how much suiccess you have had or how much you have let yourself go.

Holly Crap Dude! Any womens  automatic buy.

Chaching!

Microsoft with Natal has no need for a specialized board.  The only thing the board does that Natal doesnt is act as a scale (Yes I have one).  Natal should allow for far more intense exercises as well. That is my problem with the WiiBoard.  None of the exercises are really intense enought and I have been on a weight loss program since January (lost 45 lbs so far) and the times I use the Wii in a pinch I burn about 1/2 the calories compared to the stuff I do at the health club.  I judge this by my heart rate monitor not the WiiFit software (software reports less).

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

I disagree with Weight being the only thing that needed.

You can shift your weight without moving. Cameras cannot detect that.

You can stand completely still but still able to shift your weight in all directions.

Hardware shouldn't be the problem to approach from a different direction to avoid getting sued.

IMO, the software part is the hardest to make. It's got to be appealing.

Damn you Sega  for failing me and Monkey ball balence. That was something i wanted to spend alot of time on with my kids. Well at least theres a chance a company will attempt it one day.

Oh they will copy it sooner or later, mark my words. And if Vitality Sensor is a huge hit, they will copy that as well. Tis the beauty of capitalism..

I cant believe anyone that is interested in fitness would rather have the ability to detect slight shifting of weight over the ability to have more intense ( like simply aerobics ) exercises.  Not to mention the ability to do exercises where you arent stuck to the board. The most intense exercise in WiiFit is probably running and it doesnt even use the board. Tries to judge your running in place with the WiiMote instead.  Then you have the stepping exercise and the boxing exercise.  Natal would be able to use any step that you purchase at a fitness store and it could be larger for more intense stepping workout.

As for Velocity Sensor. No way, putting a pulse monitor on my finger is so 10 years ago.  If one of the manufacturers really thinks a HRM will work then a watch type would be far better.

Have you WiiFitted?

I don't think you understand the importance of posture and balance. Fitness is not just (intense) workout.

I have some ideas about how avoiding patent lawsuits: Sony and MS could use two pan balance scale-like devices, even hanging from the ceiling, just to get a more different feel, prior art dates back to some millennia ago.    The only drawback is that this would pave the way to 3rd party clones, Sony could take it easy, but MS would be utterly pissed about not being able to milk royalties from them.

Stwike him, Centuwion. Stwike him vewy wuffly! (Pontius Pilate, "Life of Brian")
A fart without stink is like a sky without stars.
TGS, Third Grade Shooter: brand new genre invented by Kevin Butler exclusively for Natal WiiToo Kinect. PEW! PEW-PEW-PEW!

why would they. The Wii fit was a success, but it was'nt used for much else.

It works like this. Be first and Be good enough.

That's the reason why so many companies that come after fail. It has nothing to do about being betters. Just Be First and Be Good Enough. If your First and NOT Good Enough. Then you still have the Opportunity, but already profit potential is decreased, but maybe you can still take first place. Nintendo is in a situation that it's trying really hard to Be First and Be Good Enough.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
