 Mega Man is known as Rock Man in Japan. This was changed for everywhere else because 'rock' is slang for crack cocaine, and the name stuck i guess.

OMG Mario n Snake !!!

That's nothing, Pac-Man was orginally supposed to be called Puc-Man but was later changed because Puc-Man would be too easy to vandalize.

In Donkey Kong, Mario was called Jumpman and was trying to save Paulina from the monkey he abused.

I think.

And before that Mario was simply going to be called 'Mr Video.' Originally they hadn't planned for him to even have the ability to jump!

I'm not sure where you heard that one but it's just plain wrong, assuming you're talking about Super Mario Bros at least (though I'm pretty sure Donkey Kong always had jumping planned)?

How do I know how wrong that is?  Because Super Mario Bros was built on one single concept: jumping is fun.

Actually, I believe it's from a "Iwata asks". Miyamoto said there was no jump initially (guess you just used the ladders to avoid being hit) but it wasn't working very well, so He said, "Let there be Jumping"; and there was Jumping. And He saw that Jumping was  good.

He's talking about Donkey Kong and he heard it from Miyamoto!

Miyamoto explained it in the Iwata Asks interview about New SMB Wii.  At first Donkey Kong only let you climb up and down ladders to dodge the barrels.  Then Miyamoto realized the best gameplay concept is to have 2 things that are easy to do alone, but hard to do together, like running and jumping.  So he added the jumping.  Then both Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. were expanding on the jumping concept, so jumps could be used as attacks (from below in MB and from above or below in SMB).

EDIT: ::high-fives Farmageddon::

Yeah :)

Iwata Asks are awesome, there's always something you wouldn't expect.

The only thing I can think of is that the sign looks like goatse, but I'm sure the game was out way before that picture was made famous

Unicorns ARE real - They are just fat, grey and called Rhinos
