Forums - PC Discussion - Starcraft 2 DRM

Someone posted a link to a very recent interview about SC2. Now all the utter bullshit and crap (seriosuly, SC2 is gonna be shit whichever way you try to spin it) aside this REALLY caught my attention:

I have one more question. I know you said you're not going to support LAN play with StarCraft, but there has been rumours that there might be some semi-offline mode – log on once to make sure that you have the client, and can connect. Are there any such plans?

The offline mode would be for the single-player component, so if you want to play the campaign offline, if you validate the version on Battle.net and then you play offline for campaign.

Basically, it's almost Ubisoft level DRM. For you to even play single-player you still have to ahve the initial internet connection. I mean seriousl Blizzard? Are you fucking with me? Cancelling my pre-order and booting up my torrent tracker because if the single-player of this game doesn't completely blow my mind (multi-player is very lackluster, definitely not something made over 12 years) I will not be buying this game until it's around $30.

Actually this game isn't going to be shit, it's going to be THE shit.

Don't Care. Starcraft II is gonna blow me away and I'm gonna enjoy every moment of it.

there's always piracy to turn to. which i always do for these stupid drm practices. it's kinda weird actually. the more they add security, the more i'm prone to pirate. if there were no security, i would buy the original all the time.

one of the reasons i bought fallout 3 for pc despite the fact that i already have it on ps3 is the super loose drm system.

drm = stupidity.

I know that even after I buy it I will be running the pirated version. I have started travelling a lot recently and I lack internet more often than I have access to it. So basically I'll have to run an illegal version simply because Blizzard have started to blow ****.

Been playing thebeta for some months now, and the horrendous bucket of crap that Bet2.0 is aside, this game is very underwhelming. Really, Warcraft 3 feels like a better game right now, and the moment you log into the WC3 bnet you shouldn't even think about twice about SC2. The sole saving graces SC2 can have now are the custom games (which may become paid if you read the interview) and the single-player.

mm good luck waiting for the pirated drm free version, myself i really dont care that i have to stay online as i just play at home so really dont care about it

This game baffles me. They took starcraft which was to many....pretty much near perfection, and it seems they went completely out of their way to try and piss off as many people as possible. How do you make one of the most competitive and long running rts's ever even better? how about lopping of lan support and region locking your servers!! that should get this snow ball rolling.

i think blizzard just learned the wrong lessons from activision = milk the customer.

starcraft 2's stupidities:

1.) 3 LAUNCHES - jesus, you need to buy the game 3 times? this must be the worst excuse to milk the customer of all time.

2.) dumb-ass DRM - as mentioned in this thread.

3.) NO LAN - sweet christ.. when they mentioned this, i already decided to pirate the damn thing.

if i were an activist, i would be starting an online ban petition. but i know that's not gonna do anything.

yeah the only thing i hate is no LAN that is so stupid xD

It is also region locked.

There is no more Battle.net chat rooms. In fact there is no more chat at all outside of your friends and whispers and in game.

Adding friends requires their email address, or finding them on facebook.

All of these problems are on top of the fact that the game itself is still very effed up in terms of balance and just plain fun (support units are abolutely useless).
