Nice RDR launch. I thought it might even sell a bit more on 360 in ratio but that's very good for both consoles I think. With good reviews and word of mouth it should sell very nicely over time.

AW I think actually good for the title - pity so many thought the title was going to be some huge FPS level monster; that kind of wish fulfillment thinking simply set the game up to fail from that perspective.

Again, I really think Remedy went the wrong route being exclusive with AW. They'd have seen far more sales from being multi-platform particularly if they'd supported PC and PS3.

MDR actually in line with many racers launches in Europe that went on to sell very well, so only time will show if it's a hit or not. Again, people bringing all kinds of wrong expectations to judging it. MDR's success depends on legs, no initial sales. And we're going to have to wait to see how those pan out.

Looks like both 360 and PS3 are going to have a good 2010. PS3 obviously looking the bigger YOY winner so far 360 doing fine considering it's age.

Next stop Move and Wave (or Wave and Move) and the Holidays.

Wii doing okay but strange to see the SW total behind PS3 and 360. Adding the HD consoles together really shows that right now the big ratio of SW being sold is HD titles. SMG2 should change that a bit but I think Nintendo need to find a way to get a better stream of popular titles on the console.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

hmm seems red dead redemption and alan wake sold some units for Xbox 360...
but that is not even enough to make Xbox 360 sales up YOY. -.-

360 sold a bit more this week in Japan. Alan Wake factor?

ALan Wake wasn't out until the 27th in Jap so no it's not Alan Wake. It's Lost Planet 2.

Got that. A bit surprised about it though.

Well actually if you look at the Japan sales page you will see that 360 changed 0% from last week! The 360 has been selling pretty decently (for the 360 at least) ever since the new Elite bundle was released (including Bayonetta and Forza 3 for the same price 29,999 yen) on 4/28. It's been in about the 4k to 5k region since the release. There was also a Lost Planet 2 bundle release as well, but I'm not sure if it made any difference.

I thought the PS3 - 360 gap might drop into the 30k level... but its actually down to 26k now.

YOY

Wii down 38k 18%
360 down 2k 2%
PS3 up 32k 35%

I am convinced the 360 will have a better 2010 than 2009... despite the doom and gloom merchants here.

This week XB360 had huger releases than both PS3 and Wii, but while it kept better than Wii YoY, it was nevertheless a little bit down and a lot worse YoY than PS3. And regarding sales numbers it was last of home consoles. If it takes having the biggest releases to XB360 to achieve this, well, then we could extrapolate that also in Q4, getting the best releases it will be able to achieve around -2% YoY.

It will do better than that, but I wouldn't conclude it from this week.

Last week sales 3722 - quite an increase for a 'dying' console.

it possibly will.

we may see a reversal of last year, ie 360 price cuts will bring 360 higher than ps3 again

I diagree... heres why

The 360 has had a slow start to the year software wise and yet it is only down around 3% YOY YTD...  Thats a good performance imo.

And of course its worse than PS3... what did you expect? Its sales at this point last year were the lowest so its bound to be up. Come August that flips...  The PS3 at 126k is a lot lower than quite a few here thought would be the minimum weekly sales level this year.

The PS3 at 126k is also a lot higher than a lot of people were expecting. A lot of people, including you if i remember correctly, thought it would be "impossible" for it to sell so well... Even expecting it to be neck and neck with the 360.

OT:
Hardware numbers are boring this time of year. Software is where the fun is at!

Who thought that the PS3 be impossible for the PS3 to sell 126K in a week this year?

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
