Forums - Sales - Japan first day sales (Galaxy 2 launch)

Really this generation has seen the consoles take a major blow. Although it would be interesting if Wii+PS3 could equal GC+PS2 numbers. But up till now i dont think either company is completely satisfied in japan, which could prove well in the near future.

Basara 3 won't do any good on Wii, mainly because there's the PS3 version and it's the superior version as it contains online play and the obvious HD graphics. At most 100k.

Japan cares about online play and HD graphics now?

When people have the choice among 2 versions, they will probably go with the superior one. Japan cares about HD graphics, otherwise we won't be seeing all multiplatform games performing better on the PS3 than the Wii.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

If Japan cared about HD graphics, the HD consoles would not be outsold 2:1 by the Wii.  Your counterpoint, which is probably inaccurate and certainly based on a miniscule sample, is not good support for the original statement.  I agree with your conclusion that the game will do better on the PS3, but the reasoning given is specious at best, especially the part about online.

There has to be a reason... Multiplat games sell better on PS3 and that's because people find the HD versions more attractive. Be it for the HD graphics or the online aspects, who knows. Even at a higher price, they always perform better than the Wii version.

Honestly, I'm not aware of many multiplats that are even on both Wii and PS3. The only notable one I can think of is Winning Eleven, which Konami's done literally everything in their power to shift audiences towards PS3/360, while rebranding the Wii title and generally releasing it months later. The damage there is pretty much done at this point. There's also Sonic Unleashed, but those releases are somewhat different between SD and HD content wise, plus the Wii version (barely) sold best there anyway.

I do think Basara 3 will do better on PS3, but that's largely because Koei's already consolidated the Musou fanbase there (which Basara takes after).

Only problem with that logic is, some people might prefer motion controls to HD graphics, (which might explain why the Wii has thus far sold twice as much as PS3 in Japan).

Not everyone sees HD graphics as the end all be all of gaming. "Superior" version is really a relative term.

Yes motion controls and price could favour the Wii, but experience has shown that most multiplat games have sold better on the PS3 in Japan. But part of the problems are 3rd parties themselves, because most of the times the Wii version is missing features. Like with Basara 3, online is missing and motion controls aren't the draw here, otherwise there wouldn't be a classic controller pro bundled with the game.
