Glasses need to go and the price much be almost the same. Essentially 3DHD must replace standard HD

I don't think it is up to gaming to push 3D in the home. I am still somewhat baffled that Avatar, the movie many credit for pushing 3D into the mainstream is still not available in 3D.

If they get rid of the glasses then I think it would be a big help. If you have people over to watch a film you don't want to be worrying about how many pairs of glasses you have.
The cost is the other thing holding back 3D TV. The cost of not only the TV but the glasses as well.
Get rid of the glasses and a massive barrier for 3D uptake is reduced, leaving only price which will come down in time anyway. Shame the 3DS tech likely won't be scalable to larger screens.
| forest-spirit said: The glasses needs to go, yes, but even glassless 3D won't become mainstream for a long time. There's still a lot of people with SD tv's, and many of them will probably switch to an ordinary HD tv before getting 3D. Unless 3D tv's become really cheap. |
Indeed. I have an HD TV. Soley because moving my SD TV's cross country would of been a pain in the ass.

3D really is being hammered into customers skulls. I'm guessing it soon won't matter about the glasses for the common crowd.... as long as the TV does regular stuff well (which no glasses screens have trouble to do).

I certainly hope so.
As I've said many times in threads like this, I already wear a pair of glasses. Two pairs at once sucks donkeys balls and hurts my eyes and I certainly don't want to buy a pair of polarized glasses just for home cinema usage (or whatever glasses are required).
Viva La 2d!(at least until its glassless).
I honestly can barely watch a full film at the cinema without feeling like I've been up on the computer all night with heavy eyestrain, let alone what it'd be like if I had to watch all of my television in such pain O.o.
I don't want to live in a film/television world thats largely hostile to my user experience.
no in a couple of years.
but sony now support it on the ps3 way before than other console expect to reach a psp revision soon.
but while 3d tv are not cheap u won't see mainstream.
LCD didn't go mainstream til sizes of 32'+ got for less 500$
3D gaming will not go mainstream until the majority of gamers have access to 3DTV's. Do the glasses have to go? Probubly I know here in Canada the glasses cost over a hundred dollars each. This is just to expensive for the average consumer. I think that other companies will pioneer new ways to watch 3D movies that might not include glasses.
In the end whether the glasses effect the mainstream market or not it will take at least ten years before it is fully adopted by the majority of tv owners. Just look at HDTV my uncle bought his first HDTV in the late 90's and only now is it picking up speed and becoming the new standard. I bet Sony will loose alot of money making 3D games for the 2% of the tv market that owns 3DTV's (Just a guess at %).
Fact is 3D becoming the new standard will take years if not a decade. I'm not holding my breath and I doubt Microsoft and Nintendo will start making their games in 3D. I mean seriously Nintendo hasn't even adopted HD yet their in no rush to jump into 3D!

The whole 3D thing reeks of the mentality that we have to jump through a bunch of hoops to experience their media. It's disgusting.
