Forums - Sony - Sony: If It Didn't Work On Wii, Don't Try It On Move

This is going to be a huge blow to the Wii crowd when the hardcore catches sight of Sony's offerings with the new peripheral.

Unlikely.

The self-described "hardcore" (funnily enough, they rarely live up to this elitist label) jumped on the HD bandwagon and swore off motion controls as "ZOMG, gimmick" long ago.

Less fanboyish gamers who simply have a preference for high-end graphics and PS360 style games bought those consoles instead in the first place, or soon afterwards.

One the other side of the coin, the expanded audience doesn't care about HD graphics and already associates the name "Wii" with the accessible gaming they so love.

Basically, most people have already made their choice. Move is simply too late to change the course of the console war.

As a multiconsole owner, I seriously cannot find how people get so elitist over the fact that the PS3/360 have better graphics than the Wii, and the console is useless without it.

I mean, I personally am impressed with the graphics of Metroid Prime 1, and that came out 8 years ago. With that in mind, I know what type of graphics the Wii could be capable of. Often times, art style chews up technical achievements. Case in point, The Conduit. The art style in that one was bland, but technically it was strong. The sequel should remedy most of those problems along with online issues.

Games like Mario Galaxy 2 rival 360 games in terms of appearance (that Galaxy 2 dragon is unbelievably good looking in the trailers). No More Heroes 2 cel-shading is just solid. At the end of the day, I only need things that look good enough. It is the reason why I spent almost 100 hours on Rune Factory Frontier.

Bump Mapping has fooled millions of people this gen.......

So they will do what Nintendo did during the Snes/N64 era... look what that did.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

now here's the deal breaker with the ps2, pull up the top 20 selling games on the ps2 and wii, one survives off of shovelware.....and one just has shovelware.

There is only 1 shovelware title, Carnival Games, in the Wii's top 20. The Wii survives (and thrives) on several factors, primarily first part software and appeal to the expanded audience, but shovelware isn't one of them.

And Everybody's Golf 3 made the shortlist of best selling PS2 games...

Shovelware is not a Wii-specific phenomenon. Heck, the Atari 2600 and NES had vastly more shovelware yet everyone remembers them as classics because they also had great titles to offer, as does the Wii.

Sure, that's why they're coming out with that sports minigame compilation?

Well... The best "selling" game on Wii is a sports minigame collection so...

Also, on topic

I love how people claim that the existance of bad games, rather than the lack of good games is what can kill a platform. Note how the consoles with the most shovelware are the PS2, Wii, DS? Which coincidently will be the 3 highest selling consoles by the time they're done. High sales breed shovelware. Shovelware does not in any way breed low sales

I'm going to say this without doing any research so you can probably prove me wrong:  The most popular system gets the shovelware because it's the most popular system.  The PS3 isn't near that level and the Move doesn't need a lot of unheard of bad games detracting from the unheard of good games.

Won't this attitude make the move peripheral be perceived even more like the Wii in that situation? Surely it will because, as already mentioned in this thread the games which specifically don't work/sell on the Wii are the hardcore type games. Surely Sony should be trying to differentiate their new control scheme from the Wii by it doing different(see, hardcore) types of games. By discouraging this type of thing on Move then surely 3rd parties will just bring out what they perceived to work on the Wii. Which means mini game compilations and so- called shovelware. It seems to me Sony are saying :- Don't bring games to our platform that won't sell. Not:- Don't bring bad games to our system. Unfortunately these are two different things.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

If they're just going to try to copy whatever has worked on the Wii, its just going to be a Wii clone. And as I've already said, the people who own a PS3 and wanted 'waggle games' already bought a Wii. Meaning Move isn't going to sell.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

you would think that it wouldn't take someone to tell developers this

yup make some awsome game's and guess what the fact that Sony is already in 3rd . so why the hell does it matter now anyway. Quality is a good thing if you ask me. it's not about catching the Wii, Sony's going for quality. why worry about placement in a console war when your already 3rd!

Because they want to retake 2nd, and even 1st if possible.
