Yes you do have to revisit levels. Although some of the retooled levels are different enough that I can't tell they are the same. It's more or less keeping the theme but creating a new level within it.

The world map is dumb to me. It's like they wanted to shove in as much 2d mario as they could after NSMB Wii sold out during the holidays. So they stuck in the world map from the 2d mario games, although it is not the same. Now you have to collect enough stars to be able to progress rather than just beating each level progressively. There are less "goodies" within the world map as most of those lie on Starship Mario (which you have to painfully navigate). There are alternate paths, but not as varied and interesting as it was in New Super Mario Bros.

I'm getting very tired of the game's "signs". It seems everywhere I go in this game, there is a sign telling me what to do and how to play. Starship mario doesn't even have anything interesting on it, it's just a bunch of NPC's telling me "special moves" that I already knew how to do.

I know they are trying to rope in New Super Mario Bros fans, but this is silly! New Super Mario Bros was fun because it didn't have a million signs explaining how to play the game. It didn't need it.

How effective are tutorials anyways? Do newbies actually appreciate this stuff? I know that whenever I started a new gameplay style, I would usually just play until I figured it out. I would never go up to a sign or a tutorial and actually appreciate watching it.

Anyways, sorry for the Galaxy 2 hate. But someone had to criticize this game! Seems like everyone is playing it with their eyes glazed over.

None of those tutorials are necessary, and tey tell you what to expect before you watch them. Youo can get through the whole game without seeing one if that's what blows your skirt up.

And yes, it does help newbies. I watched  that happen today.

The tutorials still obstruct the fun of the game. It's hard to concentrate when there is a help bubble coming up every five seconds.

@mortono you seem to not be on Mario's slong like most of the fanboys here. So I gotta ask do you still have 2 revisit the same levels 5&6 times to get those stupid stars??? that is really the only problem I have with the 3d Marios, it makes it repetitive and it bores me. I wish it as more like the 2d ones in that regard. If im done with a level i wanna keep it moving. seriously if I dont have to hunt for stupid stars per level then ill get it along with MNRs

you wouldn't believe how fast older people who didn't start gaming until recently can forget moves, they can come back the next day and forget about 90% of them, so to be casual friendly and good to established gamers at the same time, it's a design decision they went. if you are already an established gamer, simply don't talk to them and just enjoy the game. the brilliant design behind nintendo with these games is that you have a choice, in galaxy, you never have to read the story, and in this one, you never have to talk to those annoying ass npcs if you choose not to.

the world hub in galaxy was a problematic navigation tool to the worlds if you are revisiting your save after months of not playing, and the new one solves that problem as well, it's hell of a lot better to navigate than galaxy for me personally since I don't have to deal with bs and can just get to the playing part faster.

if there is anything I wish the game had, it's higher res since I don't do dolphin lol, maybe the next console i guess.

The television tutorials you refer to are completely unobstructive. You're complaining about an option rather than a necessity. That doesn't make good sense.

My opinion is that tutorials, especially the one's that require you to read small text, NEVER work. There are very few old gamers that have the patience to sit and read countless help bubbles.  From what I've seen, they always immediately try to control the game, even if they don't know how! They skip past text sequences just like the rest of us!

The key to getting these people into games is not to overload them with tests, trails, and loads of small text. 2d Mario, after all, didn't have any tutorials when it came out. Many millions of people have played that game! It more or less taught people through the experience of playing the game and dying. The genius of Nintendo is not "optional help bubbles", it's Super Mario Bros 1st level and how people immediately picked up the game just through that.

The hub world, I'll agree, was worse in the original Galaxy than it is here. Still, Galaxy 2 doesn't really fix the issue as there is still a hub world in the form of Starship Mario. All the "goodies" that would be in a 2d mario world map have been removed and put into this Starship Mario hub world. It would be interesting if Starship Mario had more to do than just talk to a bunny about how to jump and spin. Perhaps this changes as the game progresses, but so far Starship Mario is boring.

I'm not talking about the television bubbles. I'm talking about the constant help bubbles that pop up. Every sign has them. Every time you grab a power-up, you get them. The game is already visually confusing enough, the help bubbles just push it over the edge.

I just didn't enjoy this game right off the bat. I'm enjoying it now, after playing through the first world, but the intro and first levels are not very good.

Anyways, I find it funny how defensive people are being! This game has a 98 on metacritic, how dare I criticize it!

someone needs to put peach on a leash lol

anyway i say buy it.. its mario

I just bought red dead redemption yesterday and i have enough money to buy galaxy 2 do i do it? the next game i want is starcraft 2 but i can pay for that later. So buy galaxy 2?

Did you liked the first one, if so, you'll have double the fun. Starcraft is releasing in two months, so by that time you should have some cash ready again (hopefully).

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

Firstly, there's a difference between "disagreement" and being defensive. I would not think to defend this game: it doens't need defending, and I wouldn't be the one to do that anyway.

You have to actually read signs. Again, that's an optional engagement that you get into for youself.

Granted you get a short bubble tutorial when you pick up powerups for the first time, but it's been this way since Super Mario 64 and I don't find it visually confusing - and neither does the newbie I had playing yesterday. They find it helpful.

I don't actually care if you enjoyed it. I'm expressing disagreement on points unrelated to that.

@mortono your keeping it real, I like that. I might just get the game anyway, I skipped the original
