Forums - Sony - MGS4 Must Sell More Than One Million on the First Day

I think that it could sell 1 million units under these conditions. Assuming that gt5 launches before mgs4...

-50 dollar pricedrop world wide for all skus and bundle gt5 with some ps3s. The 50 dollars is not alot but it would bring some media attention to the console near the release of a high profile game.

-Advertise the hell out of mgs4 to the point that every person in america knows this damn game is coming exclusively to the ps3.

-When the game finally launches bundle it with a limited amount of ps3's and if they really wanted to put the nail in the coffin do another 50 dolaar price drop around the time mgs 4 launches.

Assuming that all of that happens, which it wont, but if it did i think it could possibly reach 1 million in the 1st week, 1st day? hell no.

There is no way in hell GT5 is going to launch before MGS4, unless MGS4 is delayed massively again.

@dabaus

Gt 5 coming out before MGS 4 is IMPOSSIBLE

Great news!

I didnt even include what sony could do with white knight chronicles in japan assuming that game comes out before mgs 4.

Its a worldwide release correct?

So assuming that mgs 4 sells
200k in japan (conservative estimation)
450k in america (liberal estimation)
250 k in europe (no idea how software sells in eupope so i have no idea.)
So altogether i predict 1st day sales for mgs4 to around 900k

Wow. If Konami really does need 1m in sales first day (from consumers), prepare to be vastly disapointed.

Don't get me wrong, I think MGS will turn them a profit, but if they're banking on it being a Killer App to move PS3s, I very much so doubt that it'll happen.

This is based on a few reasons:

#1. The PS3 is still real expensive. At $400, that's still alot of cash to buy 1 moderately high-end exclusive. MGS isn't Halo or FFXIII.
#2. The series has been declining. Each MGS has had worse sales. MGS3 was ported to the Xbox for extra cash. Why should we expect a MGS on 1 very week system to out-sell other MGS titles on much higher-selling systems?
#3. No PS3 track record of ultra-high first day sellers. The PS3 has had some great sellers, that's no doubt. However, selling 1m units in 1 day, or 1 week is a huge feat. You have to have a good track record of near-like sales. The PS3 doesn't have that.

MGS4 could sell 500-750k first week "if" it's global. Retailer preorders could get close to 1m. However, sales for MGS are going to come by addopting PS3 owners picking the game up, not MGS-heads that will pick up a PS3 exclusively for MGS.

Your wrong, MGS3 has never hit the XBOX. MGS2 substance was on the XBOX, and without it MGS2 sold 5 million on the PS2. MGS3 sales struggled because it was never a sequel, but a prequel.

Didja get that thing I sentcha?

But it was still the best (appart from the classic original MGS though).

Mgs 3 struggled because it was a prequel set in the past and had fierce competition thanks to halo 2, metriod prime 2, other high profile games. Im sure theres more, hell it could be folks just gave up on the series after 2's confusing story. Next year tho mgs 4 launches with no real competition, unless gta4 and gt5 launch around it, which would only bode well for ps3 sales, maybe not so much for mgs 4 sales due to fact people would be spending their money else where on the two said games.

Gotta love Sessler. He said exactly what I said a long while back. I can see 1million in it's life time, but not on day one. If by some leap of faith the PS3 has 10million units sold (which seems doubtful) it would have to have a 10% install base on day one.
