Sonic The Hedgehog™ 4 Episode I: Release date and new platform confirmed!

A press release is below addressing this but SOA’s RubyEclipse, is going to be on Gamespot’s On The Spot in a couple of hours from now and will be discussing Sonic 4 – after which this blog will be updated with something else from the show. – AAUK

SEGA is incredibly happy at the overwhelmingly positive response to Sonic The Hedgehog™ 4 Episode I from both press and fans around the world, and wants to ensure that we’re delivering the best Sonic experience possible.

With this dedication to quality and the Sonic experience in mind, SEGA has decided to extend the development of the game, and will now release Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I in the latter half of 2010. The additional time will allow the Development Team to focus on ensuring overall high-quality throughout the game by continuing to tune, balance, and maintain the kind of polish that an important title like this demands, and ultimately providing fans with an unrivalled classic Sonic feel.

SEGA is also pleased to confirm that Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I will be coming to the iPhone and iPod Touch via Apple’s iTunes App Store.

Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I is developed specifically for the download market and will be available via Microsoft XBLA, Sony PSN, Nintendo WiiWare and the iTunes App Store in late 2010.

Sucks!!! But I'm glad there will be an Appstore version.. sonic 4 on the go seems nice..  Here is a trailer

Good! Delayed games or games with long development cycles usually turns out as very polished and fun games.

Pretty neat that it's heading to the iStore (still shaking my head on how they're not making it a retail release. Come on Sega...) but if they need more development time, give 'em more development time. At this point in their career Sonic Team needs all the help they can get.

The trailer was great though! Can't wait for it.

I wanna be excited for this game.. but this is the same team that gave us Sonic Unleashed on Wii. :\

It seems like maybe SEGA are doing what I thought they did - "leaking" these videos on purpose so that they can see public reaction and change the game according to that :P
