Forums - General - My Not So Fun Week and a day.

So I just finished up my classes on the 6th and was getting ready for a nice relaxing week coming up before I was supposed to start a new job today (ie Monday the 17th).  Had a pretty good weekend with friends and was out until about 4am on saturday night/sunday morning.

This is where the fun begins....

So I'm getting ready to go to sleep at about 5:15 am on Sunday morning and all of a sudden I start getting pain in my left side, I settle in and try to get comfy but no the pain is definitely getting worse.  At this point I'm thinking I've got an awful case of gas to look forward to in the morning on behalf of a plate of nachos I prolly shouldn't have eaten for dinner.  Well after an hour of pain I decided it was bad enough that I needed to go to the ER.

Maybe it's luck, maybe it's always like this (I don't know), but the ER is completely empty..it's me and like a dozen staff members throughout the entire ER (and our ER is pretty sizeable).  Somehow it still takes them 90 minutes before the doctor comes to see me...but during that 90 minutes the pain goes from "wow that really hurts" to "OMG WTF I'M DYING!!!!!!" to which the nurses are telling me "You can't have any pain meds until the doc sees you.".

So finally the doc comes in...decides he isn't getting any useful info from me until they dull the pain a bit and orders up some dillotted(sp?)...(fast acting stuff but doesn't last long).  He thinks it could be a kidney stone and wants to do a CT scan to which I basically tell him "yeah uh-huh...keep me on pain meds and you can take your freakin time on diagnosing it"...which in hindsight prolly makes them think I'm a druggy but whatever, it was my honest reaction at that point =P

To skip ahead a bit, the CT confirms kidney stone, they keep me on pain meds and the doc tells me it's "only 2 inches from being out, it'll be a few days".   He hands off some prescriptions for FlowMax, Percocet, etc... and before long I'm home and pretty much spend the next two days in a nauseous stupor from pain and drugs before deciding I need to go see my primary care physician.  He sets me up with some better meds that won't make me so nauseous and some nausia meds on top of it plus some more FlowMax since the first prescription was almost gone (bastard only prescribed 3 pills of it), and he wants me to go see a Eurologist so he has his office set up an appointment and forward the info to me.

Well, the Eurologist they selected is (A) not on my insurance and (B) way the F$&^ out like a good 30 minute drive for me. None of which I really grasp until we get there and find out that unless I can come up with $200 cash they won't see me (which I don't want to anyways since they aren't with my insurance).  After prying for more details trying to figure out why the hell my doctor's office sent me out here they tell are telling me I wasn't even going to see a doc, they had some nurse practictioner or something for me to see instead ....granted I don't know if thats similar to a doc or not, but even $200 to see the doc sounds crazy to me so I tell them thanks but no-ty.

By this time I'm feeling awful because the car ride out there plus all the walking around has majorly pissed off my left kidney and in general I feel like shit.  The ride back makes things go from bad to worse and by the time I'm home I'm ready to just dive back into the pain meds and sleep.  But for whatever reason it ends up taking like 2 hours for the meds to kick in so I spend 2 hours in agony waiting for meds to kick in because my doctor's assistant is a complete idiot....wee fun....

Just to wrap this up, it ended up taking 8 days before I finally passed the damn stone and I still don't feel so hot, but I feel miles better than I did even two or three days ago.

And in all of this now I'm not sure where I'm sitting on the summer job.  I guess I'll find out tomorrow.....

I sincerely hope everyone else had a better week than that =P

PS - The drugs they gave me were all narcottics and I honestly do not see the appeal...they make me feel like crap...then again addicts are not known for their rational behavior...=P

Ouch. Sorry to hear it, dude.

Getting a kidney stone has long been one of my greatest fears, so thanks for reinforcing that.

Dude, that's rough. I agree with badgenome, I dread having one of those. At least you are going to get better from this point on. Now that you passed it's only going to less and less painful.

Percocet is the devil. I know that for damn sure. Almost got hooked on the stuff.

OT: That's rough. Hope you feel better and your job works out.

Please Watch/Share this video so it gets shown in Hollywood.

Wow... that really sucks. Kidney stones are one of the most painful things imaginable.
