After reading an article, quoting something Bioware stated about FFXIII, I got to thinking. What does make an RPG and RPG? and do WRPGs have more a right to be classified as such more so than JRPGs?
What I have formulate is...
JRPGs have you enbody a character. You as the player are trying to understand the existing character's motives/beliefs and what they are feeling as the story progresses. Its sort of like being an actor, assigned to specific roles(which is indeed "Role Playing")
WRPGs the character embodies you. You shape the look and personality of the character. The game developers want to see what your motives/beliefs are and what YOU would feel if put in certain situations(which would manipulate your decisions).
I believe both are just as valid as an RPG.
here is the articles....
wanted to know what you all think on this matter.
