I'd like to keep the signature banners if possible as I use them on some forums.

If you want to autogenerate them, you might consider using PHP with the GD library. You may find some info there :

As I'm not knowledgable in Php, I don't know if it's the most appropriate library but I'm sure you can find one that fits your needs.

As a sidenote, having a compact version of the banners would be really sweet since I'm not a fan of huge signatures.

You might be able to reduce it a bit further by using smaller fonts for the sales total and using smaller percentage bars.

But since you currently generate them manually, I guess it's too much to ask for this compact variant for now.

I hope you manage to automate the process so you can keep the banners and make variants at the same time

I'm thinking about either removing the banner from my signature on the forums where I use it because I find it really too big (but I wouldn't do that happily since I like it anyway and giving some advertisement to VGChartz is fine) or trying to write a script to create my custom signature from the data on the front page.

The first option would unfortunatly be more likely since :

- I'm lazy ^_^ '

- Getting the data from the front page might be considered as bandwidth stealing and frowned upon (however, I could provide the script to the maintainers of VGC and solve this issue).

However, any update on this topic might motivate me to write the script if it appears that the admins don't have time to do it but would welcome this solution (don't hold your breath anyway ^_^ ).

Nolendil, seems like a good idea, you should perhaps PM ioi. He isn't on the forums 24/7 and isn't checking every topic that's around so he most likely just never saw it. =)

Please leave them on the front page at least since that is like the main thing i look at when i come here

 If you want to auto-generate, take a look at Google's chart API:

http://code.google.com/apis/chart/#bar_charts  (zoomed to the bar charts section)

 You can color the bars, att titles, text, etc.  All by passing a URL.  It returns a PNG format image.

Andir > The main page is HTML not an image. So an image has to be produced to be used on signatures which means you either have to manually create the image (as it's currently done) or to create a script to do it automatically.

Doing it manually means that updating is a boring task to do regularly, so it's not updated as often as the front page.

Not as silly as that post.

For one, you violated the rule #3.2  Your post had nothing constructive in it whatsoever.  Nolendil's reply to me, however did.  If you  had posted something such as: "ioi gave a reason on page one in case you missed it" or "your quesiton is answered on page 1" or even "those bars are generated by hand" the post would have actually been constructive and post worthy.

Secondly, you also violated rule #3.4 by telling the world that you thought my question was silly.  Correction: "REALLY silly."  It was intended to be a flamatory post to the content of my post and nothing more.
