Does anyone have the chart how much money every one of the three made for the past years?

I expect a profitable turn out this FY. Considering they've got GT5, Move and new revenue sources like their extended warranty plan (more than 90% of what they make from that will be pure profit considering the precentage of those systems are likely to break) and what ever they plan to do on PSN. Also, they'll be making a profit on PS3 hardware for a decent amount of the year. Well that's my response to the business side of things.

Gamer side: FUCK YEAH!!! Woohoo!!!

It doesn't include newest quarter results though. Also MS is one quarter behind because their fiscal year starts at different time.

Sony treats their hardcore fans well. They understand how important it is for a fan that the brand is popular and aims to dominate the market.

Marketshare first, profit is secondary in my opinion.

I wish MS would do this too to win the console war. :/

Why? How could marketshare possibly be more important than profit?

I don't believe that report for one second tbh.

Mainly because as others have mentioned it means that one of the other products posted the losses. We know Vaio is running profit, we know PSP and PS2 are. So it is pretty much out of the tv's and the PS3. My money is on both.

Making money from hardware and software doesn't equal to profit. For example Sony has to pay salary for about 5000 people (more than Nintendo and MS) who work in their gaming section. it costs a lot of money. There is also always R&D expenses (PSP2 maybe ?)

january 3rd to may 8 2010

Console PS3
Total
3,591,894

January 4th to may 9 2009

Console PS3
Total
2,608,983

why would they need a price cut, they are already 1mil a head of last year

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Because they said they would sell 2 mio. more PS3s in this new fiscal year than in the last one. They want to keep the PS3 selling loads, that's why they'd need to cut the price.

Well as a stockholder I'm not too happy... but I understand the business strategy.
Luckily, my Nintendo and Microsoft stock are performing well... now just give me more dividends... and I'll be happy.

Please explain it to me, because I can't see how the PS3 will ever recoop the billions it's lost.

For the fans it is. I don't care that much if Microsoft loses money on the Xbox, for me it's a lot more important that they expand their userbase, release lots of exlusives and win the console war so we can be proud in front of the Sony guys.
