Forums - Sony - PS2 sales

I don't think people care all that much anymore. Everyone knows it sold about five thousand billion anyways...

Why do you want to show everyone that it's still selling? What difference would it make? Why make a thread about this instead of pming ioi?

Questions Questions..

Because it's a huge part of the console market and numbers are availible. The difference would be that this site would show the entire market instead of the "next-gen` part. Nextgen is a stupid name btw, if the 360, Wii and PS3 were nextgen sales figures would not exist as the product would not yet be availible. Stupid marketing term people blindly follow.

The market is about waht´s availible and sells now. We all know the PS2 sold over 125 million already and that might ot be most interesting, but seeing figures on how the 7 year old PS2 still manages to do very well in todays market are absolutely relevant.

Why pm IOI, this thread will eventually lead to a pro and cons and so far the pros are outweighing the cons. Sure some people who love to see the Wi, PS3 or 360 more on top would feel a bit cheated but the numbers don´t change because you would like them too. The PS2 deserves a place as it´s a great product with a huge following, well priced and still rocking the boat.

PS2 is the best selling video game anything. 130 MILLION is amazing and its still selling, I expect that the ps2 will top out at 150MILLION.

"Next-gen" is dumb.  It's also past.  The PSWii60 are current gen now.  The PS2 is last gen.

Last gen is selling out a current gen console who is two years on the market =/.

No, the PS2 is current gen. It's actively promoted, ahs a huge userbase and still has games coming out for it. It's ridiculous that people see a console survive the "next generation" of consoles and then call it last gen. Last gen is past tense and there's nothing past tense about the great sales of the PS2 in todays market.

I think that the weekly PS2 sales should be shown, because they are still relevant

Being last gen does not somehow make the PS2 a bad console or degrade its large library of games contrary to what you may believe.

However, game releases are slowing down. Developers are no longer choosing it as their lead platform. The PS2 may have a huge userbase, but make no mistake that it is a dying console. It's not going to just disappear over night like the xbox as Sony needs the profits it brings far too much to cover their PS3 problems, but it isn't a healthy console.

The PS3 and Wii have been out for a year and the 360 for two years now and with each passing day more of them are sold, more games come out, and more support transitions to them. It isn't wrong to still be proud of a console you like, but still calling these systems next gen when they've all been out for over a year is pure ignorance.  Likewise, calling an aging system current gen is also such.

PS3, WII, XBOX360, nds and psp data shows the trend of the market, I don't think PS2 sales data is relevant to analyze the ongoing VG market, and how it will grow in the future, just include it in the news thread is good enough.

I truly believe that the PS2 is going to be the budget console of choice. Developers aren't deserting it and there are still more than 160 games coming out before the second quarter of 2008 http://www.gamershell.com/news/42858.html.

Also, Sony has patented a new device that will allow players to control games with movement of the head which will be released on ps2 and 3. I personally believe it will do extremely well amongst people who don't game that much and don't want to spend much money on it and the PS2 is the perfect choice for them.

Saying that ps3,wii,360 sales show the future isn't a waterproof argument. The PS2 is also sold and that should be proof too. Of course it is pretty easy to say that the market of the new consoles is growing as their marketshare increases but that doesn't automaticly mean the PS2 is decreasing so much that market dries up. The PS2 isn't a current gen from a technical point of view but from a sales p.o.v it sure is.
