No, the PS2 is current gen. It's actively promoted, ahs a huge userbase and still has games coming out for it. It's ridiculous that people see a console survive the "next generation" of consoles and then call it last gen. Last gen is past tense and there's nothing past tense about the great sales of the PS2 in todays market. |
Being last gen does not somehow make the PS2 a bad console or degrade its large library of games contrary to what you may believe.
However, game releases are slowing down. Developers are no longer choosing it as their lead platform. The PS2 may have a huge userbase, but make no mistake that it is a dying console. It's not going to just disappear over night like the xbox as Sony needs the profits it brings far too much to cover their PS3 problems, but it isn't a healthy console.
The PS3 and Wii have been out for a year and the 360 for two years now and with each passing day more of them are sold, more games come out, and more support transitions to them. It isn't wrong to still be proud of a console you like, but still calling these systems next gen when they've all been out for over a year is pure ignorance. Likewise, calling an aging system current gen is also such.
