3DS to use 3D camera? From Sharp?

I'm pretty sure the 3DS will have an option for 3D camera input, but it won't be this. This is going into production too late and is too expensive.. Nintendo will just have 2 cameras that can create a 3D image

That is what I am interested in.

But what would a 3D camera bring that a regular camera wouldn't? I only see augmented reality in 3D as the actual differentiator here.

And if the 3DS uses the layered 3D for its screen tech, will the footage from this camera even be compatible for showing? Regular 3D footage isn't compatible with these types of screens to my knowledge, so augmented reality in 3D might not even be possible.

If it can suck in 3D, producing the 3D on screens would be easier, no?

How they make it work is for them to figure out.

There is just a fundamental difference between the two. The camera records two different pictures which are displayed in turn to provide the 3D effect, where as the screen shows parts of the same picture in different layers to provide the 3D effect. There is a pretty massive difference in structure between the two.

Not sure where you got your idea with regards to the DS's screen but this sounds more like the former than the latter.

"On the first issue, Iwata responded, "If a game is originally made as a true 3D space, you make the 3D image by drawing two lines, one matching the left eye and one matching the right eye," Iwata.

Hsrob is correct, Rainbird, go read up on paralax barrier technology, there are multiple 'layers' as you seem to think there are. The system merely has to display two camera angles of the same scene which makes it much more efficient in terms of resources that you seem to think it is. The 3DS will use the Sharp paralax barrier 3D screens, this you can be certain.

EDIT: Whatever, I stand corrected. It will be interesting to see if they choose to use a 3D camera input then, but I still only see a limited use with augmented reality in 3D being the main draw.

Can't wait for 3DS and also for the first cell phones using it.

This can be huge for Nintendo , but i think that they would go with a SD resolution , cuz the screens are pretty small on the DS and also you would only be able to see the 3D effects in its screens anyways ...

Hope this is in the list for the 3DS features.
