Before coming here I thought FF9 was the least popular & was regarded one of the worst ones, amongst people I know at school & elsewhere anyway. But after coming to VGChartz I saw this FF9 love like everywhere on here.

FF9 was pretty good. It had that classical touch that was missing from quite a few previous FFs, plus it had a good story and fun characters. If the battle system had been touched up and not so slowish, it would have been a contender for my Top 3 FFs of all time.

The battle animations take about as long to occur as FF8, but that game was really fast paced.

It's mostly likely due to the fact there are four characters, and about four things take place before your character does something.

And you know the battle speed can be changed? Increase it in Config. Although I loved the slower pace, I think it was needed due to the fact the battle animations were long and there were four characters.

FFIV had five characters and the pace of the battles were much faster. Is not about the speed of the battles per se, it's about how wind-up and unnecessary animations were.

In regards of FFVIII animations, I never said otherwise Heck, Eden's GF animation alone takes over 2 minutes ffs.

Dude, that config option has been around since ATB was introduced in FF2 and you're telling me that it can be changed? That's quite some decades too late

Yeah, it's mostly the animations, but I still love the game.

And at the bold....

What? Uhh, yes it can? It's been that way for several games? I really don't get what you're saying.

Battle speed modification has been around since FF2 on the config menus. Some FFs had a numerical scale from 1 to 5 and more recent ones had two different options, Active and Wait.

I just found your statement odd, given that any long time FF player knows about that.

That's why I found your statement odd, since you SHOULD know that it can be increased.

I wasn't implying that you didn't know, rather being blunt or whatever.

Yet in my original statement I never refered to the battle speed as being the motive as to why battles were slow paced, but rather the animations

I just finished FFXIII and i gotta say: Its one of the best freakin' games I've played in my life!!!!!!!!!

I found it was incredible... and it had all the elements that make this series so good!!! A great story, music, characters, gameplay and quality... although it had some flaws, like the weapon upgrading system, or i would like a minigame... but overall it was great.

On topic: What went right? Well, FF are quality games made with a lot of effort...and by people who cares a lot on their product... that went right, I actually expect FFvsXIII to be the best game EVER!!!!!

My fav. FF:

Final fantasy XIII (yeah!)

Final fantasy VI

Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy V

Final Fantasy IX
