Hmmm. They question the accessibility of the track creator when by all accounts it's much more accessible than LBP level creator and we have 2 million UGC levels on that game. At least with auto-complete it's a piece of piss to make a ready to race track, and then you can try stuff out as you go.

Critical of not being able to change the basic shape and size of your character, when there's no such facility in LBP either.

And what's wrong with needing a bit of a learning curve to get the hang of the handling around the race track? Requiring people to learn how to drive; outrageous!!

I'm not saying a 7.9 is an unjustified score, and it's an OK score anyway (still in the green zone for Metacritic). But I think some of the negative points they make seem a little contrived.

Like I said in another thread I think some of the reviewers who gave the game a score below the Meta-average might live to regret being on the low end of the scoring spectrum. I think this game will be all it's cracked up to be.

I do note there was no mention of load times as a point of criticism.

I played the beta and the gameplay is broken, game deserved no more then 2/10. If you want a good cart game go play Mario Kart on the SNES.



Their main critique is that the track editor gives you too many options to create interesting tracks (that's a negative, right), the AI is smart (bad also...) and the music isn't the best (but you can play your own?).

1. It is if it's not accessible enough.

2. It is when being smart results in cheapness.

3. Doesn't free the game from an obligation to provide good music of it's own.

 

I'm not making any judgements about the game, (obviously I haven't played it) but you're misinterpreting the review's criticisms.

I really enjoyed the beta and found the charatcer and track editer really deep. It took me about 45minutes to grasp it but once you realise just how deep it is and how to use it I think its really good ill be buying it day 1 and by the beta I'd give it a 9.

It's kinda sad to see them give a score for the "STORY".... People, this is a ARCADE RACER!!!

I don't see anything negative about the AI being actually competent enough to power up its weapons.

and frankly, this game is going to get around 8.5 Meta anyway

lol now I know exactly what my customized character in MNR gonna look like :P thanks for the idea
