stp it lordoftheknight. xenosaga 1 is one of the best rpg's hve played. ppl liked it for its story the most, it hd sum of the most amzing cutscnes, u hvnt played it clearly.

What support do you have for the bolded? If this thread is to be believed, Episode 1 was "70% cutscenes," and it opened with a 20 minute trailer. Like Xoneogears, it sold over a million copies.

Episode 2 sold significantly less than that, and 3 sold even less. People who buy a game on name recognition or hype and are ultimately disappointed with the product are unlikely to purchase the sequel. The fact that the sequels sold less implies that people who played the original did not like it. If it truly is a story-driven game, then they must have hated the story.

Xenosaga: Episode 2 sold less for 2 reason:

1.) It wasn't marketed as well as Xenosaga: Episode 1

2.) It underwent DRASTIC changes that turned off fans of Episode 1 (which in turn, effected Episode 3's sells).

Unless the jrpg is called Final Fantasy, its impossible for Xenogears & Xenosaga: Episode 1 to have sold so much if people didn't like them. Look at Too-Human. That game had enough marketing for it to sell 3 millions copies but it couldn't even reach a million. Why, because people didn't like the game.

Explain what you mean when you say that the second, and presumably third, titles were not marketed as well as the first.  I've heard that line used to explain many diverse poor performances, so I'm unclear on what that even means now. And if the first title was marketed so greatly, it explains why it could have sold so well despite not satisfying people.  The available sales data certainly shows that it was incredibly front loaded, with over two-thirds of its sales occuring in the first week.  That is a sign that people bought in due to the hype, rather than because their friends told them it was an amazing game.

Furthermore, most people who actually enjoy one game in the series are usually willing to give the sequel a shot.  The changes in Episode 2 may have disheartened the most vocal of Episode 1's supporters, they would have to have played the second game before they could make that judgment. Those differences may explain the drop from Episode 2 to Episode 3, but they do not explain the drop from 1 to 2.

The only thing that bothers me is that it is not in my Wii yet.

Well, I'll give you my take on it. Which is irrelevant. But you can ignore my life story if you want.

I played Xenosaga 1, because it was in outerspace (My favoiret part of FF8) :P.  Then I bought Xenogears 2 (And it was a change drastic made it bad (I like change as from FF1-13 how they change and people get pissed, but this is a direct sequal). I didn't like Xenosaga 2. So I thought I best weight for it used to get 3 and thats what I did and I loved 3.

Then since I loved that I bought xenogears. And that was way better :P

thus what I'm trying to say is... uh nevermind, I ahave thought disorder incording to my doctors, not the best example

damn :P

I see what you're saying.  And yes, Xenogears was great, although I haven't played it over a decade now.  I wonder if I'd still like it today?

I cannot say for sure as I do not have exactly the same tastes as you.
but it was my first time playing it 9 months ago :P so I had no nostalgia to help me like it, which you likely will have (unless your not the nostalgic type). :P

We know that Xenoblade is a stand alone game that has nothing to do with Xenogears & Xenosaga. We are just saying that Xenoblade's storyline should be Xeno-like since its has gnostics like it's predecessors.

Why it should be?

I's not that I don't hate the idea. I love Xenogars and Xenosaga I, but I believe thay should start a new.

The only gripe I have from the previous Xeno- titles is the compleity of the stories. they were so complex that me and my friends scratched our heads many times. and if a developer needs to put an enciclopedisa into the game to understand the story, then something is very very wrong.

If they take some elements from the Xeno series and start an entire new story, I would be more than happy. I say it does not have to be xeno like. I rather it to be unique.

I disagree where you say that using encyclepedia is very very wrong. It is your taste that you'd rather not have games with that. I personally love sifting through various sources of information to piece together the universe. As I love the codex's/datalogue/whatever that adds lore/makes the story make more sense in various WRPG and JRPG's

And taking some elements from xenogears and start an entire new story is what they did to xenosaga.
That's what I hope they do with xenoblade.
But you can hope differently thats fine too

@thelifatree

Maybe I didn't explained myself properly.

The encyclopedia in itself is not wrong. Having a "codex's/datalogue/whatever" is a very welcomed feature to players that want to know more than what the story gives.

What I am against is when you need to stop playing and start reading because you got confused by the complex story and you want to understand well what is going on before continuing. This is what's wrong, and my friends and I got that in Xenosaga II.

A codex or encyclopedia is fine as long as it remains a bonus, not something that becomes necessary

You're confusing "looking up all the nuances of a world and their deeper meanings" with "doing homework just to understand the plot".

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
