What support do you have for the bolded? If this thread is to be believed, Episode 1 was "70% cutscenes," and it opened with a 20 minute trailer. Like Xoneogears, it sold over a million copies. Episode 2 sold significantly less than that, and 3 sold even less. People who buy a game on name recognition or hype and are ultimately disappointed with the product are unlikely to purchase the sequel. The fact that the sequels sold less implies that people who played the original did not like it. If it truly is a story-driven game, then they must have hated the story. |
Xenosaga: Episode 2 sold less for 2 reason:
1.) It wasn't marketed as well as Xenosaga: Episode 1
2.) It underwent DRASTIC changes that turned off fans of Episode 1 (which in turn, effected Episode 3's sells).
Unless the jrpg is called Final Fantasy, its impossible for Xenogears & Xenosaga: Episode 1 to have sold so much if people didn't like them. Look at Too-Human. That game had enough marketing for it to sell 3 millions copies but it couldn't even reach a million. Why, because people didn't like the game.
