Nintendo will be doing the same exact thing next generation at which point every Nintendo apologist will go from swearing how HD development is resulting in the death of the industry due to higher development costs, to how "Nintendo does it again!" when they release a HD console of their own that will presumably produce better visuals than the current HD consoles at a $299 initial MSRP due to lowered component costs, capable of producing what should be a pretty modest (by current PC standards) 1920x1080 resolution @ 60fps.

As for this whole putting graphics before anything else in games; BS. We've all seen a literal Blue Ocean of crappy titles on the Wii that were just plain lousy games in addition to looking like just plain lousy games.

As far as I'm concerned, MS and SCE simply went with what was to be the current standard in visuals for games. It was only Nintendo that shorted on hardware specs in the interest of producing a low priced console they could sell at a profit from day 1.

I think that the fact that you don't think it is prevalent is BS. Countless games have sold on hype and bullshotted trailers alone (check Prototype) and people have bought into them, although they are terrible and hollow.

These visuals you obviously wish to get behind are like when a boy falls in love or gets a crush on a girl.

At first he is blind, only seeing her looks and situations in which he will imagine he is having fun with her. His friends think differently.boy asks girl out. Girl says no. After being burned the boy has time for reflection. After time, what does he realize?

Behind the looks and flirty demeanor lied a condescending, bossy, wild, vindictive bitch that he should've never wasted his time on. A high-maintenance ho not worth one dime.

So what was her name?  LoL.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

I'd prefer to keep that under wraps lol

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Except for Nintendo, they can never do any wrong here. = P

I know right now the community here is sweating bullets, but HD systems have risen in Japan with the PS3 regularly outselling the Wii and even the 360 adding something to it. Four years in, you can expect decline, but it being this slow must mean that this generation is going to last a while or at least the decline will be slow.

I'm not sure why you people are trying to make fun of my post.. the PS2 had the majority of its sales after it hit $199.. as did the XBOX 360, the wii has been fairly close to $199 its entire lifespan.. and even then its flat compared to last year. PS3 has a fairly low install base the wii has a fairly large one, I think the ps3 has room to grow once it hits $199, not saying the wii doesnt, but its already at the $199 price point, and clearly selling great.

The Wii has flatlined, flatlined a while ago infact, but thats due to dire lack of hardware pushing software, i mean theyve taken measure into hand to maintain the sales, but with the $199 sweet spot not doing as much as expected, you may start to feel that the Wii has very much lost much of non-gamer hype.

Still, many PS2 gamers who were duped into getting the Wii thinking its the natural progression are now considering HD, the 360 is nearly there and the PS3 will be too. I agree with TheSource and ioi (most likely) that HD has peaked, but lets not assume that its the end especially given how irregular this generation has been.

All those with Nintendo consoles in their avatar, and i know many of you here, way too many in fact, just remember HD isnt in the state you guys make it to be, after all we are getting Dead Space 2, not Dead Space Extraction 2.

What's all this "we" nonsense?

I'll be getting Dead Space 2, and I would also be interested in Dead Space Extraction 2, if it's announced.

360 owners are getting an old PC port of Monster Hunter Frontier and Wii owners got a fresh new Monster Hunter 3.

So what?

You do know that

1. The same streak happened in early 2009 as well and Wii sold more than PS3 in Japan for the year.

2. YTD in 2010 Wii is still outselling PS3 and same weeks in for 2009 PS3 was actually outselling Wii in Japan.

3. Wii's sale in 2010 for Japan so far actually increased comparing to same period in 2009.

I'm not exactly sure what your point is.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

So Sony was spot on and now projects 15 million.

Your 8 million forecast for the XBox 360 seems fair considering the decline in sales for 2009 and the first quarter of 2010, but if the 360 can do another 10 million this year total sales could be close FY 2010.

If your XBox 360 forecast holds through as well as Sony's forecast for the PS3, by the end of this fiscal year the PS3 will have outsold the 360's total shipments by 2 and a half million units!

The gap by the end of March 2010 was 4.5 million consoles to the advantage of the XBox 360 (taking equal timeframes it's 5.5 million to the advantage of the PS3).

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

It's also nice to see the more software was sold for the PS3 this fiscal year than for the XBox 360 during this period, this despite the 4.5 million hardware gap to the advantag of the XBox 360.
