Well... Indeed those ones were/are very important. But Sega did great to be on the list with Saturn, or Mega Drive! And they were more important than 360 is!

I think the list is missing the snes and n64
for the shoulder pads and the analog stick

2 very important things for controllers nowadays

ps: I know the vectrex was the first with an analog stick but the 64 was the one to make the difference

This may be blasphemy to some, but I'd take the Atari off that list. Well, let's say that of the 2600 and the Odyssey, only one should be on that list. "First" is basically the whole reason to have those on there, and there's only one No. 1. (Sure, the Atari sold a lot more, but much of the industry growth was undone by the later crash, so the contribution of that is lessened.)

NES: Yes. Hell yes.
PS1: Yes.
360: Yes.
Wii: Hell yes.
And the open slot is filled by...
N64. For doing 3D right, and (relatedly) for the thumbstick, and for rumble. And for not having CDs, which was "important".

Good list. (WTF was up with his Wii comments? I don't like the Wii and will probably never own one, but I don't think that was necessary) Also I like how the people saying the 360 should be off the list don't even own one. Way to show your true colors guys!

I agree with everything on the list expect for the 360, it should be replaced by the N64 as that console defined how 3D games should be made and played.

Also what's with the Wii hate? It's pretty much the same as the Gamecube but better.

Hell no I disagree, No PS2 the first console to bring DVD format to really take off, first console to run a 10 year life span, The top sales of any console, most games, This is simply MADNESS, PS2 has to be on this list, take the 360 off, put PS2 in, 360 should be in there , also take that magnavox off,

1- Atari 2600
2- NES reg nintendo
3-Super Nintendo
4- PS1
5- PS2
6- 360 and PS3

PS3 brought another top disc out to great sales, and take off, Blu ray.
360 for bringing the best online play out first.

After reading IGN's top 25 consoles, nothing surprises me.

i dont agree with the xbox 360 on the list but i do agree with the wii for the shamful fact its what brought nintendo back from the gravce.

I agree with the list but I'd put Commodore64 instead of magnavox and Xbox1 instead of X360.

Atari 2600 first real console magnavox oddysey was nice for its time but even though it was the first console it doesnt matter that much it didnt helped gaming. Atari 2600 createt the market.

NES saved the market after the big crash and changed gaming with Mario Bros and Zelda.

PS1 was the beginnig of 3d they showed how modern games will be N64 was aso remarkable but it gave birth to Nintendos 3d while PS1 was the platform for all developer. Also it made adults play and changed the kiddy image of consoles.


PS2 it has done everything what PS1 has done just better but is that all ? No PS2 changed the market PS1 brought the adults in and PS2 brought them all in. With singstar eyetoy Buzz guitar hero they also begun to bring in non player and unified all aspects of the market on one console.


Wii made the same thing as PS2 just in a larger scale. They brought in more non players and sold another console image to the market. And it was the first console which was remarkably weaker then the competitors.

That doesnt meant they are the best I prefer SNES over NES anytime. But those consoles actually moved the market and changed the way we look at consoles.

Sega was Nintendo (and later Sony) in another flavour even though I loved the DC they shouldnt be in that list. Also the N64 was really important but not as important as PS1. It was important for the Nintendo3dstyle. Xbox has life. true online gaming is big. But the havent changed the market in a similar way as the consoles mentioned above. Well the PS3 is imo the best console this gen but its actually a PS2 with more Horsepower and Online gaming. All the innovations in the PS3 didnt influenced the market in a way the Wii did.

Why PS2 ? Because the PS2 is still the best selling console and it actually begun to aim at non players. Which was later done by Nintendo even better. The PS2 created the market as seen today. Casuals Hardcore Nongamer those types were seen first time with the PS2 and not before. Again it just begun with it while this gen the whole thing expanded a lot.
