While I disagree with launching a new console before 2012 (which is when they all will), I do agree with this quote.
“We can blame the third party publishers for making shovelware, or for misjudging the Wii market, but the simple fact is that the publishers have to develop completely separate games for the Wii because its CPU is not powerful.”
I always maintained that Wii would get the top IPs by 2009, let alone 2010 and beyond. I figured that they would create the game around the Wii and then port to PS360. Problem is that not only did they not make the top IPs on Wii, they don't even give Wii scaled down ports. Absolutely a full 180 from all previous generational leaders.
However, their argument isn't all that bad. While Wii as a standalone console is the highest marketshare, it is VERY different from the other consoles. Given that fact and that combined the PS360 marketshare is slightly bigger than Wii's, it does make financial sense to focus on those two alone (plus PC) and ignore the odd man out, the Wii.
However, with the high number of consoles and software being sold, software that costs less to produce; Nintendo and the 3rd parties who do put games on Wii are still very profitable and will continue to lead the market through 2012. Therefore there still is not reason to push out a new console early and the Wii will continue to be on shelves for years after PS360 have been shut down as its library is/will be huge and very cost effective for everyone.
